Samardzjia has started off the season well.

The other day he outpitched Clayton Kershaw to get the win (7.0 IP, 0 ER, 4 hits, 5 K's, 1 BB).

He has a 0.85 ERA in two starts and apparently has learned to throw a very good sinker. If that's true, he could end up being something considering he can dial it up to the high 90's with his fastball.

Meanwhile, Vitters is still stuck in extended spring training. Promising start to his career if I must say so myself. Wieters like many of the brighter bunch here expected is raking w/ a .530 average and 2 dingers already. (1.566 OPS -- LOL!) Oh, and 6 walks to only 1 K. Kill me immediately.

Colvin is hitting .138 with 9 K's to only 2 walks.

Tony Thomas is raking @ Daytona with a .378/.452/.405/.858.

Gallagher had a very nice start in Iowa -- pitching right now only an inning into the game, though.

Samardzjia would be a terrific September call up. Or we can just call him up now since he would probably do better than the crap we have starting now.

Jeff would get his stool pushed in right now in the majors.

He is not ready to be a starter.. Way too inconsistent.

From Bleed Cubbie Blue:
Finally, rumor heard: the organization is very high on Jeff Samardzija, is pleased with his performance so far, and you may see him promoted to Triple-A very soon.

Jeff Samardzija got his first loss of the season tonight against Carolina. He pitched 6 scoreless innings and gave up 3 runs in seventh.

Any body have a detailed report card on Gallagher so far? I mean, all i know about him in 2008 is the stats. Stats don't always tell the whole story though.

Minor League news from rotoworld-

Sean Gallagher
Sean Gallagher fanned 12 while allowing one run in 7 2/3 innings for Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.

Gallagher, who might rank as the best eighth starter in the league, has a 1.93 ERA and a 25/5 K/BB ratio in 23 1/3 innings for Iowa.

Eric Patterson
Triple-A Iowa's Eric Patterson left Tuesday's game with soreness in his right hamstring.

Patterson was 2-for-2 before departing, raising his PCL average to .260.

Looks like Gallagher may be ready for a look in Chicago real soon. E-Patt might stay in a minors for a while though.

The problem is, I wouldn't know which pitcher to call down to bring Gallagher up. Maybe his great start in the minors this year is attracting some trade partners for the Cubs?

mlbtraderumors.com is still saying we're in talks with Boston about a Gallagher for Coco deal. They said Boston would agree to it but Cubs are still holding out for Brian Roberts. So i don't know.

I hope that's not true. Felix Pie and Reed Johnson are doing just fine in CF this year,

Coco Crisp:
Batting Average: .325
Home Runs: 0
RBI's: 3
OBP: .349

Felix Pie:
Batting Average: .206
Home Runs: 1
RBI's: 5
OBP: .250

Reed Johnson:
Batting Average: .339
Home Runs: 0
RBI's: 9
OBP: .415

Giving up Gallagher for Coco would be a waste.

yeah right...

Why would we do that anyway? When Soriano gets back we dont even have ABs for Pie, so why would we trade our best pitching prospect for a 5th outfielder? Even now with Soriano out we cant find ABs for Cedeno, Murton and Fontenot.

I am very impressed with Reed Johnson so far this season. He is a gamer.

I also am far from giving up on a guy like Pie. I love his potential, his attitude, and I still have a good feeling about the guy.

As long as those two are able to produce, I would definitely think twice about moving Gallagher.

I wouldn't give Jim Hendry for Coco Crisp. That's how stupid it would be to acquire him.

And speaking of Gallagher, he had a beastly performance in Iowa today as mentioned. And our friend Jose Ascanio got his 5th save of the season.

0/5, K on Saturday
0/3, 3 K on Sunday
0/2 on Monday
