They need to finish strong. Only up 2 in the division with enough head to head left that they can either win the division or give it away.

A solid sweep of the Mets. Now it is time to sweep the Cardinals to reclaim control of the division. With 16 games to go 11 are against the Cards and Brewers. If the Cubs have an extra gear now is the time to kick it in.

That was a wild game. Lackey and Willson getting ejected and a few fielding errors to help a 7 run 6th inning. I hope the rest of the weekend turns out like this one with the Cubs on top.

Since the allstar break i think lackey has been the cubs best pitcher.
I understand that he may not make the playoff rotation but its something that ive thought about.
Ive been really impressed with lackeys performance post allstar break.

If he isnt in the rotation respectively, it would be great to utilize him somehow.
I admit i havent been the most avid baseball follower throughout the years but do fifth starters usually just deciminate into the bullpen. If so i like that it could potentially bolster our post season bullpen rotation.

C-contreras-8 Avila-1
1st- Rizzo-9
2nd Baez-7 Happ-1 Zobrist-1
3rd Bryant-9
Ss-Russell-8 Baez-1
Rf-Hayward-9
CF-Jay-7 Happ-2
Lf-Zobrist-7 Schwarber-2

Here is a mock rotation i like with a totally healthy cubs team.

I wonder how many times the cards have clicnched inside wrigley, being able to clinch on their home field was cool to see.

He has been very good post All Star break. I don't think he starts in the playoffs though. i could see Madden using him as a long reliever as he does have a short leash on the rotation in playoffs.

If we going off the 2nd half then Lester should be the man left in the bullpen. I don't see that happening. Arrieta and Hendricks have been great the 2nd half. I'd like to see the rotation go Arrieta, Hendricks, Quintana and Lester with Lackey ready to get up and ready if anyone struggles early.
