#1 for sure now. Should be

Yu
Lester
Hendricks
Q
Chatwood

Yu has a better strikeout per 9 ratio.
I like Arrieta, but losing his velocity is a major concern. Theo know This.

6 years is a long time though. Don't like the contract but if the Cubbies win another one (which is obviously the plan) it will be worth it.

I'm not sure he is the #1. You can make a case for any of the top four. It was definitely a needed addition and the rotation should be very good in the playoffs.

Stuff wise, Darvish definitely the ace. Will he pitch like an ace? I think so.

6/126 is a steal. You know who else is making 21m per in 2018? Cueto, Bailey and Shields. A healthy Cueto is worth the contract but broken Bailey and broken Shields are not. So yeah, 21m per is a steal for Darvish.

As for people worrying about 6 yrs in length, remember there is an opt-out after two. So the Cubs MAY NOT have to worry about the final four year of the contract. Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.

Darvish/Q/Hendricks/Lester/Chatwood, is a WS caliber rotation.

Theo not done yet?
I always say you can never have too much good pitching. A move like this makes me think of a back up in case a pitcher gets injured. Or a battle for 5th starter with Chatty. It will be interesting if we pick up Odorrizi.

IMO, that was more of a back up plan had the Cubs missed out on Darvish, Arrieta and Cobb. Mike Montgomery as the swing man/6th starter is fine with me.

I think that was likely as a fallback as well. I doubt we add anymore guys that are only starters, but could see us looking at a relievers who could spot start.

If the price were to be right I could see them adding Odorizzi. After Darvish the Cubs do not have to add anyone else so they would only do it if they were getting what they felt was a good deal. The same goes to Cobb. I don't see the Cubs passing on someone they see providing value in their contract just because there isn't a glaring need. They can always send Chatwood to the bullpen.

Tend to agree, I think i'd rank Hendricks #1, Q as #2 but who knows, you could shuffle up the names and i'd be fine either way. I could just be biased against Darvish because he struggled at the end.

I saw that Jake was talking to philly, but they don't want a long term deal, I'd be fine if we brought Jake back on a 2-3 year deal but I doubt that happens, are we having zero discussions with him at this stage?

If they are willing to bring in another pitcher I'd assume he has an offer on the table of what they are willing to pay, but there would be no point of more talks at this point. They know where they stand and if Arrieta can't find what he is looking for then maybe there is a short-term deal on the table he comes back to.

When we drafted Happ, i kind of expected him to be leadoff somewhere down the road. I hope it works out. I like him too.

Arietta to Phillies. Hate to see him on another team, but him not being on StL, Milwaukee, or Washington is a positive.
