An undefeated road trip. A 6 game winning streak. They are in good position to be back on top of the division by the end of the month.

Sounds like injury isn't significant. 1.5 out.

Re: 2017 regular season thread
lester with a fantastic start, when's the last time a cubs starter got through 8 innings? don't remember it this year
busy 8th inning
bryant was really moving on that bloop hit by rizzo - woo boy
only a game back of the brewers, pirates are making a move too they are only 3 back (and 8-2 in their last 10)

Re: 2017 regular season thread
Brewers lost so if they take out the Cards tonight they will be tied for first in the division. They are playing good ball since the break, but can we avoid giving up multiple runs in the 8th at least one game in this series?

Tied for first. Four games against a bad team then a showdown with the Brewers. So far the the second half is going as we wanted.

I would "and 1" this a hundred times if I could.
Another good start from Lackey. I thought he was going the way of Hammels last year, but maybe not.

Haven't really looked forward to staying home to watch a baseball game on a Friday night in a long time but tomorrow is the day.

Good series against the Brewers. They should be able to stay on top of the division the rest of the way. Arizona is next.

Re: 2017 regular season thread
I don't think they'll do anything else this season. Happ wouldn't clear waivers so he's safe until the off-season. The only "big piece" they have left that should be considered in a trade is Schwarber. I would have rather seen Schwarber traded in either the Chapman or the Quintana trade than Gleyber or Eloy.

Re: 2017 regular season thread
I love Schwarber, but starting to agree with that thought just due to limited position options and defense. Also would like us to keep Davis even thought Wilson might be considered an option as closer of the future as we could face another summer of trading prospects for relief help.

lost yesterday but lets continue to sing the praises of willson contreras - he is on an absolute tear
where does he stand in terms of catchers across the league? i know he's still very young but would most teams want him over their current guy?

Willson is solid. He's a top 10 catcher at this point. If he can improve his pitch framing he can become a top 5 catcher. He is 3rd in fWAR, but it doesn't factor in pitch framing and I don't have to do the full calculations right not, but it looks like he'd be 5th or 6th with pitch framing factored in. I can't think of a catcher that I would take over him given team control, age, contract, etc. Obviously, the Giants wouldn't give up Buster for him. I think the Yankees with Sanchez, Royals with Perez and Marlins with Realmuto and Dodgers with Grandal would have no interest in trading catchers. I think you can make a case for Willson being anywhere from 2nd to 10th in catcher rankings. Posey is still the standard, but at 30 and starting to play more 1B to extend his career I'm not sure how long we'll be calling him a catcher.
