The 2nd lowest ERA in the NL. Lowest BAA in the NL. Tied with SF for the most shutouts in the NL. Most walks allowed in the NL.

The pitching has one area they need to improve. If they can get the walks under control they will be the best staff in the NL. As long as the walks are where they are they are closer to 5-8, although the ERA suggests they are clearly 2nd/3rd in the NL. If Darvish and Hendricks get right the staff will be great for the playoffs.

it doesn't seem like it though, but then a month ago when the pitchers were humming and the offense was struggling - they were likely near the top in some major offensive categories

i suppose it just speaks to the talent of this team (and how spoiled we are high our expectations are), that parts of the team can struggle at times and the whole still be very good. just further evidence that if everything clicks at once - look out

Five straight wins! Hendricks finally gets a start without giving up a HR. It is only his 6th such start this season out of 17! I don't care about their ups and downs in the regular season. They need to be peaking going into the playoffs. Being able to have parts of the team struggle on their way to a 95ish win season shows how good they can be in the playoffs if everyone is going strong.

cubs win, zobrist is so clutch

i'm not paying much attention to the rest of the league much, but what's the mvp race looking like? how good of a case does baez have? he's having a great year and is everywhere and just does everything. affects the game in so many ways

Nice win over our achilles heal (Reds)!

Not sure how MVP is shaping up, but dont think anyone on another contending team is having a huge year to make it where hes not in the conversation.

There are about 10 guys you can make an argument for in the NL right now for MVP. Javy, Arenado, Freeman, Goldschmidt, Muncy, Arenado, Aguilar, Gennett, Kemp, Suarez and Story can all make an argument right now. It is VERY wide open right now. No one is running away with it. If I had to pick right now I'd probably put Suarez, Freeman and Arenado as my top 3. I just can't put Javy in my top 5 with a .327 OBP.

The sick part is the Cubs have the 2nd best record in the NL and might not have a single all-star game starter.

i'm seeing baez and contreras as all-star game starters, and lester is also on the team

don't know if the whole roster has been decided yet but 3 isn't too bad

probably no snubs, the outfielders are playing great but there are so many that none are really full-time

javy freaking baez, wow he just makes things happen

also there have been a lot of runners making it all the way home from first on non-hits due to some fielding mishaps lately in cubs games (on both sides), weird

and its amazing how many cubs fans there are everywhere/how well they travel because there were a lot in san diego last night. watching the highlights it sounded like wrigley when they tied it in the 9th and took the lead in the 10th

The fans being everywhere is the WGN effect. I grew up a Cubs fan in OKC because they were the team I could watch all the time. I loved watching Ryno, Durham, Jody Davis, Dunston, Dawson, etc. as a kid. When Kerry Wood got called up I recorded his first start because I wasn't going to be home, it was Easter and we had our family gathering at my aunt's. I also was fortunate to set the VCR to record his 20K game because I wasn't going to be able to see the first few innings due to school. I watched the second half live when I got home from school then watched the whole game several times over the next few years.

yeah that makes sense, its how i became a cubs fan too, although its less of a stretch for me being from iowa - but i am in more twins country than not

but yeah everyday when i got off school in the spring and fall i'd come home and the cubs would be on wgn, didn't see them as much during the summer oddly enough because i'd be outside playing - but i grew up with sammy sosa and the early 2000s teams

Brewers are coming back to reality, which was bound to happen. Hendricks gave up another HR.

Nice position to be in heading into break. Javy is just a beast. I was in Iowa as a kid, so summers were definitely WGN so that and a lot of family in Chicago so i was there a lot did it for me. Plus first game i went to was at Wrigley when the team had Buckner, Monday, Reuschel, etc.

Return to Chicago Cubs
