What a see-saw tonight turned out to be for the Clippers. First, they're standing pat, Then, we're trading up to get Gordon, who they eventually got at #7 anyway. Bravo for not being fooled by Sam Presti. Gordon doesn't come in with a ton of hype, but if he can find his role running the P&R with Elton Brand next season, Gordon might find himself being the second straight Clippers rookie to be an All-Rookie 1st team player. The guy is like a shorter, bulkier Dwayne Wade with a better J.
Landing DeAndre Jordan was an absolute steal and left Clippers fans with a great feeling about tonight. But follwing the Jordan pick, who I never thought the Clippers would be smart enough to scoop up, the Clippers managed to acquire another 2nd round pick tonight. Mike Taylor made history tonight by becoming the first Developmental League player picked in the NBA Draft, and left a lot of fans scratching their heads. I guess the Clippers figured if they would give Smush Parker a second chance, they could give the Iowa State castoff a chance. For now, Taylor will fill the role of the 2nd round guard with untapped potential, following Lionel Chalmers, Guillermo Diaz and Jared Jordan. The Clippers are hoping the fourth time is a charm here as they pick yet another guard in the late second round.
The night felt like a success, until it was revealed the Grizzlies had acquired USC star OJ Mayo. Clippers fans are left to wonder how far off a deal would had they acquired the #4 pick from Seattle and spent it on Kevin Love. For those wishing to see Mayo remain in southern California, their dream was deferred tonight. Not acquiring Mayo tonight should not take away from the Clippers wisdom not to be fooled by the clever Presti, and being able to get the steal of the night, Jordan, and Taylor who is worth of a second chance.
