Is Reggie Miller as commentator really that bad?

Post#1 » by andykeikei » Fri Apr 25, 2008 8:54 pm

Normally I don't really pay attention to the commentator during the game, and since English is my second language it will be easier for me to just filter out what they said.
People have been saying Reggie is the worst they have heard, is he really that bad? And why is that?

ps. Where is Bill Walton BTW? Haven't heard of him for quite long now

Bill Walton is injured right now:

The former center who starred on John Wooden's national championship teams in the early '70s has been laid up for more than a month because of a pinched nerve in his back and an aching hip.

"His back is all jacked up. He's going through a tough time right now," his son Luke Walton said Thursday. "He can't go into the arenas and sit in those chairs. He definitely can't get on a plane. He said that's the most painful thing. He can barely get into a car right now. But he said he's getting better. Slowly getting better."

Walton is following the Bruins' run through the NCAA tournament from his San Diego home. He's been off the air from his ESPN job doing NBA commentary.

"Sadly I am down and out," he wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "Go Bruins."

He's not that great but Dan Patrick has been making fun of him for a week for saying "He's going with a FULL STEAM OF HEAD!"

So when he says the wrong words like trying to say "He garners attention in the post" Reggie will say he garnishes attention.

You can kind of guess how he sounds from those two little things there.
Notes: Rookie Rudy Gay twisted his left ankle trying to guard McGrady late in the third quarter and limped to the bench. He returned with 5:51 left, then returned to the bench about a minute later - http://www.nba.com/games/20061231/MEMHOU/recap.html

Reggie Miller sucks really really bad. I used to like him when he was playing, and he should have stayed off business. Because he is annoying as heck.

Reggie IMO would be much better suited for a studio gig. When given time to prepare information or addressing a question he is able to provide some insightful commentary. On the flipside he is pretty horrible on the fly and breaking down the action mid game. (which is why I think he has so many lame catch phrases)

Really someone above him needs to realizes and put him in a better situation.

Reggie's cool. I think he's just been listening to Walton's commentating.

But man...he's better than Dunleavy. I fell asleep with Dunleavy's cc.

Oh I forgot about Dunleavy. Guy is probably the most boring and unenthusiastic commentator ever. And the sad thing is, he probably has some pretty insightful things to say considering all of the coaching experience he's had, but I can barely even hear what he's saying. TNT's really fallen off with their broadcast teams, which was once a strength.

On a side note, good to see that they got rid of Doris Burke next to Shulman and put back Barry at least. Made the game watchable at least until it got to being a blowout.

reggie is terrible. the laker and denver game was muted by the 2nd quarter due to his voice and his cc

I thought you had to have a good voice (or at least a tolerable one) to be in broadcasting? Reggie disproves this theory, but that is the main reason why he is annoying to listen to.

Reggie's intellect and homerism towards certain teams proves that he shouldn't be doing national media. Perhaps make a trio with the Celtics commentators.

He is just boring and you don't really care to listen to what he is saying. He sounds like a robot.

I like RM. I actually think he's quite soothing to listen to. I like elevator music too. ;-)

Actually, he's good because he doesn't at all distract me from the game, unlike many other analysts.
