Kobe Bryant: Winning, still can't win
By Kelly Dwyer

It's been spinning around the internet for a few days, so you've likely seen it, but if you missed Christopher Reina's study on Kobe Bryant's shooting habits, and how they parlay into wins for the Lakers, it went something like this:

Kobe shoot over 20 times = Lakers bad.

Kobe shoot under 20 times = Lakers good.

It's a nice sentiment that works well with the popular ideal that Kobe is some ball-hogging freak by nature that has to somehow rein in his instincts to shoot every time down court. That he's so obsessed by putting up points and being the focal point that it's taken him years to understand that basketball is a team sport, and that he needs to, wait for it, "trust his teammates."

And it's all bollocks.

A study like this is so rife with caveats and qualifiers and chances for inaccuracy that it isn't worth its weight in however the hell you would weigh a webpage. I think you start with a Geiger Counter, convert into something tangible, and ... anyway, the "study" is pointless.

on the bright side our beloved wiretap is getting national attention.

A very good read, actually.

He gives gametime situations that result in more shot attempts in situations where Kobe is not ballhogging.

With such a girly name, he needs to STFU. Another Kobe apologist. I wonder which poster he is.

Just voicing my opinion. Not as funny as a Lakers fan who got excited by a Kelly Dwyer article.

The linked article is terrible. The writer used no facts to back up most of his claims. There is no point in going into detailed analysis of this garbage.

Sad article.

Suggesting that if Kobe passes then someone with a lower FG% has to shoot? Come on Kobe's FG% is religiously below the Lakers team FG%

Kobe should have shot MORE vs Detroit in the Finals? Wow. Yah him shooting around 30% in their 4 losses and freezing out Shaq really had them on a path to glory.

I gave up part way through and saved a few minutes of my life.

i thought this thread was going to be about something way different.

on june 2nd wiretap reads:
Saunders Likely To Remain In Detroit

on june 3rd (just a few hours later):
Pistons: Flip Will Not Return

it's ok though. it's basically as good as the presidential election has been covered last 3 times.

have disagreed with you a lot in the past, but agree 100% here..

he took A LOT more shot attempts than Shaq on about 20% less shooting from the field..not only is this bad in general, but Shaq was being single covered in this series, while Kobe was being doubled and closed out..one of the most disgusting finals performances I've ever seen from a superstar..
