Team USA vs Celtics

Post#1 » by amaj10 » Mon Jun 30, 2008 3:05 pm

I didn't see where anyone had posted this yet, it's kinda interesting. It's a "What If" analysis of what would happen if Team USA played the Celtics in a 7 Game series. Side note, who else would love to see the Celtics represent the USA in the olympics?? I know it would never happen, and our guys need the rest, but what do you think would happen if we did???

Team USA couldn't handle well against good defense.

The only team that can beat Team USA is one that is seriously taken for granted. We aren't that team.

Thanks.

That link is funny. I think he's dead wrong. The talent level on team USA is amazing but it'll take them playing together for months to get to the cohesion level of the celtics. You really don't know your own team until you've faced fierce defense. It would be a tough series but I think the Celts get up 2-0 and prevail in 7 because of their D. Also, they're really not deep in the post -- not much to be scared of after Dwight.

USA sweep, are you kidding me?
If they played against the Celtics, their lineup would be:
Paul > Rondo
Kobe > Allen
James > Pierce
Bosh < KG
Howard > Perkins

Williams/Kidd/Anthony/Boozer > Posey/House

Using that one-on-one logic we should have dominated the last 2 world championships and last olympic games, and yet, no gold. Let's do a "player x > player y" analysis versus the Greek team who kicked our asses in the last olympics shall we? It's amazing how little focus there is on team cohesiveness. No way, no how this would be a sweep.

Spain and Argentine could beat team USA but not us. Maybe we'd lose 4-1
I despise fans that cheer on a team from up north or one that resembles a dinosaur. oh wait...

Saying we would win a 7 game series against Team USA is wishful thinking. We might pull it off in a best of three, but we don't have the depth to win a best of seven.

The writer fails to note that we would play under FIBA rules. C's would be very competitive in those rules. We could play Eddie instead of Rondo..

Celtics are the true world champions. They'd beat any team in the world.

Computer sims never really grasp the idea of players knowing each other tendencies both offensively and defensively.

Clearly on paper, Team USA has the stronger individual talent when compared to the Celtics, but how they play together in a short period of time will decide whethee they win the Gold or not.

On paper, Lakers would have seem to be the stronger team, especially after the Pierce, Garnett and Allen, but we all know how that worked out.

The questions is, when you get a group of Superstars together, who will do the dirty work?

Who will be TEAM USA Posey? Perkins? Powe? etc

That Team USA won't even win the Gold.
