Do the Sixers still want out from under Brand's contract?

Postby vct33 on Thu Oct 29, 2009 8:47 am

I heard a lot of talk last year that the Sixers thought the Brand signing was a mistake. Will they actively pursue trades this year?

I think management will notice this year that the Brand-signing was a mistake. Not because of his injuries but because he's not fitting in this team.

Trade is easier said than done. We need Brand to be healthy the whole season and see him making progress in becoming the player his was before.

If not, I see nobody taking on his contract (or we should trade away Thad Young together with him).

No sense in trading him now. His value can't get much lower.

I'm now regretting why we didn't sign Josh Smith, instead. :D

Signing Smith would have been an even bigger mistake. You cannot be competitive by outrunning the opponent. Smith is a worse fit than Brand in a half-court based offense.

I sure as helllll hope so...

but well likely get a stupid lecture from our gm stating how "healthy" he will be next year and how great he will be

If Speights continues to play like he did last night, they are gonna have to do something with Brand, and i hope that doesnt include paying him 14 million dollars a year to sit on the bench.

If Speights does keep out playing him, benching Brand will probably be the only acceptable option.

If we reach that point (I'm not ready to give up on Brand yet) than hopefully the organization will be able to swallow their pride and bench him.

I have my doubts that will happen though. It would be one of those things where they have a chance to let a young player get good experience and at the same time improve the team.. they'll miss that chance as usual. I can foresee much hate coming from me if Brand is still stinkin' it up a few months from now.

Brand should start learning how to play Center bc Speights is looking like he should be the starter at PF.

Brands to small to play center... He isnt as explosive an athlete as he was 5 years ago, and would likely get abused by bigger 5's.

Hell yeah they want out of his contract.

That's the problem when bad teams make the playoffs after a long layoff and play tough against a far superior team.

Because that team gets alot of false belief and thinks all they need to do is add a guy that can score and defend in the post and they would be a contender.

The whole time failing to consider that that said player was fastly approaching 30 and never been on a winner. And of course coming off a season ending achilles injury that was sure to kill his athleticism.

All in all, Ed saw the name "Elton Brand" and got all giddy. He didn't factor in anything else but the name Elton Brand. He made that move as an ignorant fan, not a professional GM.

How about instead of this organization trying to build him around with different style coaches and hire a coach that would use him to his maximum ability?

Brand's maximum ability is about 3/5ths of what is was.

Bill Russell's Celtics and Magic's Lakers say

Suns would of won the championship a few years ago if it wasnt for the refs and David Stern.

When and why did fastbreak basketball get such a bad rep?

I think the only solution for this team is to trade Iguodala, not Brand

I think that is the only solution. We can make different scenarios on how we can get rid of Brand but its not going to happen. I don't think there is any GM that is that dumb to take on Brand's contract. So our only solution is to trade Iggy to save cap or in return a solid 2 guard that can shoot and score in bunches.
