Is it time to bench Fisher?

Postby wfiles on Sat Oct 31, 2009 1:25 pm

With the exception of a couple big shots in the playoffs, Fisher was terrible last season and so far this season. Lakers need to start Shannon Brown to see if he's good enough to be their future starting point guard or go after someone else at the trade deadline. Fisher just aint good enough anymore and Farmar is garbage. It's probably safe to say this will be Fisher and Farmar's last season with the Lakers.

Fish retires a laker and a team captain

Fish is the team captain for all the players in the league and teamed up w/ Kobe these young players know what it takes to get better. Now should Fish be a back up??? If we can move some expirings and sacrifice a piece that is gaining value then ya, sell high buy low.
I'm haven't changed my 3 more sig because its about championships, not games!!!

Fisher aint getting benched if Phil and Kobe have anything to say about it, and safe to say they do. Best just to hope Shannon's minutes increase and Derek's decrease, but what you (and I) want isn't happening.

fish has been the benefactor of being on some great teams so his defficiancies were overlooked because he was not depended on for teams to win. IMO he would be a backup for almost every other team in the league.

we need a point guard that can make entry passes into the post, get into the heart of D and dish (occassionally get to the rim)...and hit open 3s. And one that does not have lead feet...and let's everyone get by him.

simply put, fish could contribute best from the bench as an assistant coach.

No there is no real point! He would more than likely play the same level of minutes and he suits the starting lineup as his role is just to bide his time and take open shots while Shannon can be a sparkplug off the bench

We might just be overreacting a little bit. We just won a championship last year with Fish being our starter....Let's be patient.

D Fish is the same age as Sheed 35. D Fish is mr body, mind, spirit, etc. while sheed eats donuts stays up til three, smokes funny looking cigarettes and never works out and Sheeds doing well. D Fish is gonna be good at least for this season. I wonder if he's gonna retire no one has asked him have they?

Like Luke (who Phil loves as well) told Phil last season that he should come off the bench and Ariza should start,

Fish should do the same, and let Shannon flourish.

Can we really do it again this year? The Celtics, Spurs, Magic have no weakness in any of their positions this year. We have a glaring issue at the PG position. In fact, our PG position was outplayed the most last year according to 82games.com and it's looking like it'll happen again.

The only reason the Rockets took us to 7 games last year was because of Fisher. Quite frankly, I am very tired of Fisher getting blown out of the water by any speedy scrub. It doesn't help that he can't shoot for crap, pulls up randomly, and drives in the lane a lot despite being the worst finisher in the league(82games.com).

Yea, he hit that one clutch shot in the Finals but we might not make it back to the Finals with him at the helm.

Expect we have to find a PG that fits to our team because chemistry is everything.

fish is a symbolic starter that plays role player minutes to me and farmar/shannon should really be playing starter minutes in total

farmar shows the most offensive potential as lead guard, but plays poor defense against all PGs.

fish plays strong, slower guards well but just gets burnt hard when defending small, quick PGs AND is shooting quite horribly...

shannon is the most tenacious on defense but still looks like he's hesitant of when to create offense instead of passing the ball to kobe and running to the corner/top of the key...

as of right now, our PG rotation problems seem eerily similar to the walton/ariza/radmanovic arguments we had a year ago. in the end, shannon will eventually win out because the lakers NEED his athleticism to defend our weakspot

I honestly think that if Phil has the same talk he had with Lamar with Fish then Fish will agree without any hesitation. Lamar did that why cant Fish. In fact I think thats where we are heading the way Fish has been playing terrible and Shannon is looking much better specially as his minutes are increasing.

I think the only one that will be butt hurt in all of this is going to be Farmar, but who gives a hoot he has had every chance he can get to improve and he hasnt, so skip him. I'll roll with Shannon.

Bench Fisher in favor of who???

Phil Jackson won't even give Shannon Brown 15 minutes off the bench in consecutive games, do we really think he has even a small chance of starting?

What is more realistic is that Shannon Brown starts to get more consistent minutes and Farmar is given more of an opportunity to play through his many mistakes (which is all he needs to play better).

Fisher is the starter until someone clearl beats him out, much like Ariza was clearly and consistently beating out Walton last year.
Luke Walton and Adam Morrison for Eddy Curry ... Lakers save 10 million after next season ... Knicks create 6 million dollars to spend for that shopping bananza this summer.
