Brand's D.

Postby sweetlou23 on Sun Nov 01, 2009 12:18 pm

Brands offense seems to be improving, but his defense has me worried. He seems to have no lift when he is defending the paint or the perimeter, and is slow to close on threes (he's not the only one).

I'm glad to see Brand's offense coming around, but Harrington was a poor matchup for him. In fact, Brand is going to always struggle against guys that can stroke it from range. Harrington is a tweener and what you witnessed last night, you will probably never see from him again. Brand plays good post defense and is smart though. When the Sixers play Boston, he should easily be on Perkins and Big Baby, while Dalembert sticks to KG. In fact, I would always put Brand on the guy with a lesser outside shot. Regardless, I think Brand will continue to improve on both ends as he shakes the rust off from almost two years of inactivity.

I didn't see last night yet, so I can't comment. But I thought he was playing good post D the first two games. He is going to struggle if consistently having to guard out to the 3 point line (of course, outside of Garnett, there really are no big men capable of being above average defenders in the post and out to the 3 pt line).

i think brands defense has been solid and will get better, the teams defense has not been so good.Brand will always have problems with tall quick players, i think it's our best bet to have sammy or thad on those types. I have seen brand still the ball numerous times but I though he and sam would be having block parties up front hopefully it's just taking some time.

I agree, brands post d has been ok, but he is def gonna struggle when matched up with a quicker/shooting hybrid 4.

Im much more worried about Thads D(steals aside) than Brands.

Agreed. Young's defense is lackluster. He really, really needs to improve defensively. It seems his man always tries to take it to him and they usually end up succeeding (eg. Turkoglu last season, Gallinari this season).
