I think Riley's plan is to have Wade call his buddies LeBron and Bosh, and implore them to make Miami their first visit July 1st.
Then Riley rolls out the most ridiculous courting of free agents the world has ever seen ... red carpets everywhere they go ( via limo's, yachts, helicopters) ... a block party on the beach in their honor with G-stringed Latina honeys shaking their booties everywhere ... a nighttime concert at the AAA that night featuring dudes like Flo Rida and other Miami rappers. Then a fullcourt press and "selling of the vision" from the greatest ever seller of visions, Pat Riley.
How can we get both to visit if we only have $22 mill, when we'd need $36 mill to offer the max, you ask? Well according to a recent article, Riley's plan is to offer the Big 3 (Wade, LeBron, Bosh) deals starting at the highest he can afford to get all 3, which is about $14 mill each. They'd be giving up some money in the shortterm, but doing something absolutely historic in the longterm. That's the vision. And with an opt-out after Year 3, then longterm max deals given at that point once we have their Bird rights, the money becomes alot less of an issue.
And I also imagine Riley would offer to sign-and-trade Beasley to one of those guys' franchises if they both agreed to sign, which enables them to get a LOT more money from the resulting cap space (and higher raises due to Bird rights issues), and just as importantly to save a little face with their current fans by giving them a young stud in return. Doing so would enable them to get very close to the max if they wanted. Or they might say "Nah, let's keep Beas - we need him for our title runs."
If the Big 3 scenario fails, perhaps that means we "only" get a commitment from Bosh. That's still a friggin home run. If we get neither Bosh or LeBron to commit, at least we gave it the best shot we could. It might even be a good idea to convince Joe Johnson to come to the July 1st party too, telling him we'll sign the first 2 of those guys to make a commitment to the "$14 mill each" plan. Whether that's LeBron/Bosh, Bosh/Johnson, LeBron/Johnson, etc. That way we have a fallback plan in case both Bosh and LeBron turn us down. It would be kinda crappy to only call Joe Johnson on July 12th once we get turned down by others ...
Gonna be interesting, that's for sure.
