BREAKING NEWS: C's lock up Rondo for 5 yrs, 55 mill.

Postby sprash9802 on Mon Nov 02, 2009 3:37 am

Marc Spears just reported Cs and Rondo agree to a contract for 5 yrs, 55 mill:

Maybe a couple more than I thought, but if he keeps progressing, his ceiling is tremendous....

That is fair.

Good. Didn't want this kid going on a season-long contract drive when we have bigger fish to fry.

I think it's a good sign that management wanted him here for the long term. I hope the 55 number is heavy on incentives. I really want to see that fire that he has had since he has been here. Don't want to see him go Mark Blount on us.

It's a pretty fair contract for a #2 star...which is hopefully what Rondo will be for this team in a few years, if not already? I still don't think he has the scoring ability/skillset to be a number one franchise player, but will definitely make a good Robin to someone's Batman...hopefully Danny can find that next big thing somehow.

Glad this is over. Not too bad of a deal.

It starts next year, but they have like $30m in expiring deals. Should be no problem, even if they resign Ray.

so is it a good or bad deal ? short term no real problem, but in 3 years he will be our highest paid player, unless perkins signs a big deal, after that the big 3 are gone and we must trade KG and/or rondo the next 2 years as our window ends after 10/11 season. but if we are going to suck after 2 seasons his deal is very good for us on the long term.

Good deal or bad deal?

It's a fair deal.

And, I would offer, a smart one.

I wouldn`t give him more than 5/50, so I hope this includes some incentives...

I guess it was smart to extend him. You never know, there is always a crazy GM who overpays when he can`t get his first target...

I just hope Rondo starts playing more consistently. He was horrible yesterday...

1 million/year too much but on the other hand I'm glad that the fuss is over now.

How the hell do you know that it is 1 million too much per year? Based on what qualifications does that come from?

My personal opinion of course. I wouldn't pay a PG of Rondo's caliber (top 10) more than 10 million. He gets more money now than Harris and Nelson... that's sligthly overpaying in my book. Additionally he still hasn't proved to be a factor off-the-ball in our offense. Granted he impacts the floor like no other PG and that alone is worth a lot, just not more than 10 per.
