So, Lamarcus has a knee contusion

Postby d-train on Mon Nov 02, 2009 9:46 am

I remember Darius Miles' career ending knee injury started out as a so-called minor knee contusion.

Well, the big difference was that Darius didn't work hard enough to come back. I don't think we'll have the same problem with LaMarcus.

lol, that's what happens with a knee contusion if you don't rehab hard.

wait... what?

The guy was injured, and it was probably compounded by the team wanting him to come back before his body was ready to allow it. I know we're all not happy about Miles salary cap situation and some of his other reported issues, but lets not try and blame the guy for being injured.

His injury was bad, it kept him off the court for 2 years, and last year after making an ill-advised comeback he still wasn't his old self and could ultimately have to have knee replacement surgery in the near future if he pursues basketball further.

Hard work doesn't fix injuries.

They may have been CALLED the same thing, but they were not.

Watch the video of Mile's "injury." He is just standing under the hoop, and he jumps for the ball at the buzzer to end the game, and he crumples. Something in his knee popped.

LMA, on the other hand, had his knee bopped by someone else's. He bruised his knee. It probably hurt like ****, but there was no damage to ligaments or muscles. Unless he chipped his patella (kneecap), he will be fine, and even then he'd be back in a few weeks.

Contusion is just a medical word for bruise. It will be fine, unless other internal damage was done to the structure of the knee.

We'll probably get word later today on how long he'll be out, but I'd think he might be back for the Hawks.

Microfracture fixes a cartilage problem. It is the thin covering of material over the bone. There is no "pop" when that layer is damaged. And it could easily be a bruise that starts causes it. Sometimes it is caused by wear and tear, sometimes by external trauma. I know, because that is what happened to me.

I don't remember any sort of dramatic moment when Miles was injured. IIRC, he was having a career year then between games it was announced he had a knee contusion and would miss a few games. After that, it was a long drawn out period of bad news followed by worse news.

And, of course Miles not being a rocket scientist, the unpopular player (because of the defiant racist outburst) further endeared himself to Blazers fans by communicating to Quick his desire to be traded away from the team and he had a laundry list of complaints he aired.

That would really be Blazer luck if he got a career ending injury right after signing the long extension. But do you guys remember the injury? Didn't he just bang his knee really hard? I think it's much worse when the knee bends in a direction it's not supposed to bend.

The injury looked like he hit knees hard but x rays where negative so he has no broken bones at least
and he will be fine stop worrying so damn much

Here's the Darius Miles "moment" I was referring to:

The description said it was well before his big injury, but I dunno. There's no date for this game, so maybe they're connected.

As for LaMarcus' injury and your own, I have only heard of the cartilage or the meniscus being damaged by either being hit from the side (common football injury), or, as you said, by wear and tear or arthritis. I don't think there's any way to damage cartilage by bumping your knee, unless you hit it so hard that the kneecap pushed through the cartilage, and since healthy cartilage is designed to act as a cushion, I would only ASSUME that such force would shatter your kneecap before that happened. But I'm not a doctor.
