OT: Jim Rome in Portland

Postby BlazertheGreek on Mon Nov 02, 2009 2:45 pm

I was very pleased to hear all the nice things Jim Rome had to say about Portland on his show today. He spent a good amount of time giving praise to our airport the scenery, the Blazers and the Ducks. It is nice to have someone on a national level give props to our city because of all the idiots out there that say our city sucks and it's nothing like their city blah blah blah.

The interviews with Brandon Roy, Brian Grant and Jeremiah Masoli were really good, especially the one with Brian Grant....excellent stuff. Hope most of you got to listen.

So, is there any pod cast of the interviews or recaps?

As much as I hate Jim Rome's shtick, he is an excellent interviewer and has some interesting takes when he uses a more measured approach to spouting them off.

Jim Rome needs a "big Panda Punch in the Pus,"-Sexual Harassment Panda.

I don't think I've ever heard Jim Rome say anything remotely interesting or fact driven.

Not sure where to find any podcasts if there are any. Brandon Roy talked about the game against the Thunder and how it was important for the team's confidence. He talked about him taking on the leadership role on this team, specifically the time where he got on his teammates about the lack laster practice. He also talked about how he is the liaison between the players and Nate. He brought up how Greg Oden has become more vocal with his teammates about defense on and off the court.

Jeremiah Masoli talked about the big win against USC and how the Ducks have turned it around since the Boise State game.

Brian Grant talked about how he learned he had Parkinson's disease and how it has affected his marriage, how he was depressed shortly after his retirement from the NBA, and why he moved back to Portland and be a part of the Blazer organization. A very good interview with Grant who was in studio with Rome.

Coach Nate pretty much talked about Brandon Roy and how he has become the leader of the team.

Overall I thought it was a pretty good show with good interviews.

I didnt get to hear the whole thing, but what I did hear was great. Really good to hear all the nice things, and the Grant interview was terrific. Looks like you should be able to get the podcast of the show. I'd recomend it, even if you don't like Rome, you'll like all the good things he told his national audience about Portland.

Jim Rome can do a good interview.

That is why it so frustrating to tune him in and listen to the adolescent smackdown schtick he prefers.

All I know is that I'm happy Rome came to Portland, because I went to Standard TV and Appliance because I misheard and thought they were giving out Blazer tickets, but it was Jim Rome tickets. I won a pair and I couldn't go at that time anyway, so I sold the tickets on craigslist for $60. Easiest $60 I ever made.

Yeah, I'm not gonna lie I'm a closet Jim Rome fan, and this video is a big reason why.

Also, this video:

"That's the first time in my career, while I was on the floor, someone had 40 points," Artest said in reference to Brandon Roy dropping 42 points. "That's in 10 years in the NBA, probably in my whole life."

Hey, that was my post a few weeks ago in the other thread! It's actually the only time I've ever liked Rome. That was just awesome! Jim "Chris" Everett was a bit of a PU$$Y. That little push wasn't even tough. If he was serious, he would have hit him rather than push him off the stage and then stand over him. Get down there and hit him!!! I love the screaming they added at the end of it, hahahaha. Good find bbd!

That impression of Rome is priceless. Talk about a perfect replica. Also, it illustrates why I can't stand listening to Rome. To quote from one of the comments on YouTube: why does Rome still have a show?
Rudy Fernandez wrote:Sergio and I obtained chalupas to understand their power. Then Sergio showed that each one has 427 calories and 27 grams of fat. Leaping upwards, we reviled the accursed chalupa and its pressure.
