Shelden Williams

Postby LongTimeFan on Mon Nov 02, 2009 5:02 pm

This may be early but I think Williams is raising some eyebrows. Let me put this in the best possible light, efficiency per 48 min for his draft class:

http://www.nba.com/statistics/player/Ef ... ll%20Teams

I don't think anyone would be surprised that Rondo is ranked fifth. He does a lot. Willims being ranked third is pretty close to shocking. The stat can be discounted because he's going up against non-starters, a lot of his minutes have been garbage time and he is probabaly still below the scouting radar. However, his favorble numbers keep piling up.

Anyways, as ninth player, he's a veritable force to be reckoned with.

I was actually going to start a thread about how Shelden Williams is making quite a liar out of me. 4 games or not they are the best 4 games of his NBA life. He is showing signs that he is a better player when on the floor with good players instead of a bunch of stiffs. Hope it continues.

Shelden was just too good of a player at Duke not to have at least a decent NBA career. You don't put up 20 and 10 as a frontcourt player at Duke unless there's some talent there. Was he drafted a few slots too high? Probably. But the kid is definitely a first round talent. He has a good head on his shoulders, a good NBA body, plays within himself, plays with toughness, hits his free throws etc. What's not to like? He won't be the first player in NBA history to fizzle out amidst a burden of heavy expectations early in his career, only to reemerge once he finds the right environment in which to thrive. See Billups, Chauncey as a prime example.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Can't envision him being a big time player quite like Chauncey cuz he's undersized for his position, but as far as his talent, reputation and college numbers go, a kid like that makes it in the nba.

Maybe it's Doc, who knows, all I know is this kid is good baby insurance.

You can never underestimate the impact Clifford Ray has on bigs. All he does is make them better, we're lucky to have him on as a coach.

shelden has been solid. but BBD, at least in the playoffs last year, was a MUCH better player.

to me shelden is replacing scal as the 5th big, which is a huge improvement. but assuming BBD gets back to form, i still think he's a step above shel.

S. Williams rebounding is better then BBD. That's not something you can ignore. He is second on the team in rebounds in limited minutes.

One time a dolphin was drowning because it had something stuck it its blowhole and Cliff Ray saved its life with his long arms.

You can't coach hands though and I miss Baby's when they both were working.
