Another Stephen Jackson Topic

Postby aboveAverage on Mon Nov 02, 2009 8:28 pm

So I'm starting to come around on Stephen Jackson-PP has corrupted me :D

Before, I would've never considered it, but with Bogut playing so averagely, I think we may have to consider trading him soon as long as he's still viewed with some potential around the league. Once Bogut starts to plateau, we will have trouble trading an average center for anything of good value. I really think Bogut is going to be nothing special. He's not the missing piece to this puzzle. He's shown me nothing to indicate that he will become our go to guy down low. In 4 years, he hasn't developed a single post move or even a 10 foot jump shot. Hell, I'll take Nenad Krstic over Bogut, or try to snag David Lee in the offseason. Perhaps we even get lucky and get a good PF in next year's draft. That makes the center position less important.

That being said, I would love to trade him for Stephen Jackson. I know Jackson can be a cancer, but he's a legit scorer and a great defender. He's not happy in GS, it's a good opportunity to grab him. It would give us a SF who can knock down the outside shot, and if you put M&M and him on the court at the same time, you have a great defensive lineup. Put Charlie Bell at SG, Jackson at SF, and M&M at PF, and our defense will be extremely solid.

I think Don Nelson is a huge problem for Jackson. Nelson does not know how to manage personalities, nor do I think he cares. Skiles should put some restraints on Jackson.

He's owed the same amount as Bogut over the next 3 years, and he will always have trade value. I'd rather invest Bogut's money in a player like Jackson and pick up a center later.

As for the rest of this year, we can be creative. Elson and Gadz can hold their own for now, and Warrick/Kurt Thomas/Ersan can provide help as well.

I like the Rudy Gay idea, but Jackson seems to be more of a "Skiles" player. If Jackson can get his ego under control, he could really help us in the next couple years.

What do you guys think?

This is how I see it. Jennings is the game changer that makes everyone on the court better ... Even Stevie Wonder can see that ...

You're seriously suggesting trading Bogut for Stephen Jackson? Wow.

But if we think about it, what is so ridiculous about that? If Bogut never pans out, I don't think he deserves his contract. That coupled with his injury history makes him a risk to hold on to. The only problem with Jackson is his ego. I think it's worth a gamble.

Also, I'd bet we could get Jackson for expirings alone. Hell, I bet we could get him for Gadz and Alexander. His value is about as negative as is out there.

You say that like we are one piece away.

I can understand some pessimism with Bogut starting off like crap, and you are generally one of my favorite posters on this board, but come on man this is an absolutely horrible idea.

Bogut=25year old center
Jackson=31 year old SF

Getting older and smaller=no, even if Bogut is playing like a fool right now, he is still better than most centers in the league.

I'm all aboard the Trade Bogut Train, but this is an awful, awful idea.

Jackson is killing the Warriors right now. I doubt he would be much different with the Bucks. No thanks. I'd rather pursue Gerald Wallace.

Nellie is a great coach by the way.

I know it sounds bad at first, but sometimes GM's need to take risks and think outside of the general league perception of certain players.

Anyways, it's just an idea. I just don't want to rule out players like Jackson simply because they have been labeled as "cancerous" in their careers. Talent wins in this league, and Jackson has a ton of talent. Maybe he isn't the best option, but let's take some time and formulate some reasonable Bogut trades that do work for most people here.

Obviously I'm in the minority on this topic, but I strongly believe that as soon as Bogut starts playing decently, we have to trade him.

There is a huge difference in being willing to trade Bogut, and being willing to trade Bogut for Stephen freakin' Jackson.

It depends what you can get for him. I think you have to do three things when trading Bogut

1. Get an athletic center (or atleast a stopgap center)
2. Cut money in 2010
3. Get a solid young prospect

Before the season on the trade board I posted a "what could Bogut bring" thread and some Philly fans liked the idea of a Dalembert/Speights swap. I for one thought that was a pretty good deal for us (others , only can remember paul for sure, thought it was an awful deal for us). If that deal was offered up to us ever I would take that lightning fast.

Another deal I would like to see is with Dallas. If they feel like they are a legit contender this year (and next) and want to go for a push I'd look to deal Bogut and Redd (if/when he returns healthy) for Howard and Dampier.

im all for trading bogut as well , but i think there are two guys that we need to target and jackson isnt one of them .. gerald wallace, rudy gay . although at the same time, i dont think jackson would be a bad pick up . .. just dont like his salary at his age
