Artest's first choice this summer was Detroit...

Postby bstein14 on Mon Nov 02, 2009 11:11 pm

Watching an interview of Ron Artest right now on ESPN and he said his first choice this past summer was to come play in Detroit. He wanted to come to Detroit to make up for what he did back in 2006.

His agent told him that wasn't going to happen.

So its clear that Dumars didn't want Ron Artest...

But its pretty interesting news nonetheless...

LOL- he knew Pistons had the most FA money that was probably the main factor

If we could get Artest & package RIP &/or Tay into a good big man i'd do it!!! Given what happened in 05 though, that was never a possibility.

it makes sense for Artest to want to be a Piston. All the people who question his character would instantly be silenced if he get Detroit to embrace him. He could instantly go from one of the most hated guys in the league to one of the most loved.

Eh, Artest may be insane but he's really not a liar. I mean, if money REALLY was a factor he could have stayed in Artest (who I believe offered more initially) or explored Toronto. Maybe even a sign and trade. The fact that he took a MLE deal with the Lakers makes me think that it wasn't about money, though I wouldn't be surprised if I'm wrong. This is the same guy who asked for time off to promote his rap group in the middle of a season.

I understand the want and need for us to be tougher, but Artest is not the type of guy you want around a young impressionable team. And his actual on-court production is questionable at best at this point. I really think Los Angeles should have hung onto Ariza instead. Younger, more level-headed, and he's showing that he might be a high quality player for years to come. Perhaps the Orlando fans were right.

Yes. You don't follow up the AI fiasco with Artest.

Did the kid Artest first grabbed ever get any money from Artest in a civil suit?
Rip Hamilton is a stain on the Pistons franchise.

I'd have signed him. The guy is turning 30, but can play All-NBA defense against three positions.

Artests goal was really to make more money than the $7 million or so he got with the Lakers. The Pistons had the cap room to do so.

No he can't. He could at one point, but not anymore. Now he's a pretty good but not great defender.
