OT: Chris Paul and Hornets sucks

Postby Sigra on Tue Nov 03, 2009 4:54 am

They just lost in New York and now they are 1-3.

Question: Is there anybody here who think that healthy Bogut (he is not 100% now) would have 1-3 if he has Okafor, West, Stojakovic, Posey, Peterson, Wright, etc as his teamates? Hmmm

Oh dear, you're inviting a beating with this one Sigra :D

I do agree that the Hornets are going nowhere, as they didn't last season (relatively of course). They need to add a legit wing scorer if they are going to compete, I actually think that team will be broken up before that ever happens. Wouldn't be all that surprised to see Paul requesting a trade in the not too distant future.
His name is John Hammond.

There are quite a few teams that are firing blanks at the moment.

Answer to the Sigra's question. Yep. Bogut has been truly abysmal. Paul on the other hand is averaging 28 ppg with 8.5 apg. If you substitute a good player with a player who is playing like crap the team would most likely get worse.

Okafor has BADLY outplayed Bogut so far this year. So to answer your question, yes, they would 1-3 or 0-4 with Bogut.

David West's numbers are down across the board, which is why they are struggling. Once he gets in a groove they will be back.

Paul gets the numbers. West gets the wins.

Chris Paul has pretty much made David West, so I don't know where you're going with that.

Check the two seasons before Paul and then then the five seasons since Paul. Pretty easy to see what happened there.

I disagree with that. I just see a young player who found his game after a few years. West isn't one of those Amare/Howard guys who plays above the rim and gets a majority of his points off of alley-oops and penetration dump offs. He's a great mid-range shooter with an unorthodox yet effective iso game. I think he would be successful player for any team in the nba.

I think Paul really made him what he is. He came into the league as an old rookie (age 23), and at age 25 put up a 6.2/4.3 on 43.6% shooting season. How many players start developing on their own after age 25? Very few.

The next season, they draft Paul, and his FG% shoots up to 51.2% with almost double the attempts from the previous year.

I really don't think we would ever hear West's name among the top PF's had Paul not gone to the Hornets. I expect Okafor's offensive production to also shoot up even though he's now at age 27 as well.

Sigra,

Are you once again trying to imply that Andrew Bogut is better than one of the top 5 players in the NBA?

Or maybe he just got accustomed to playing in the NBA. Maybe having a superstar teammate drew some attention away from him. Maybe having a good point guard meant he got easier shots than he would have the year before. Paul didn't make the shots for him or put him in the right place on the court or grab his rebounds.

I think that's what Luke23 is trying to argue...

If that is the case (which it is) then how has Chris Paul NOT made him the player that he is?

Obviously playing next to Paul would make anybody better, West included. But I think guys like Chandler and Okafor are the kind that benefit the most from playing with a dynamic PG. West is a smart player who lacks elite, check that, average athletecism.

Not saying Paul doesn't make him better, just saying it might not be as much of an difference as it would be with other players who rely primarily on their athletecism .

He was buried on the bench of a playoff team in his rookie year and had ongoing issues with his knee throughout the season.

Second year his knee gave way and he missed 50 games - the same knee he had issues with in his rookie year.

Third year he was healthy.

Is Chris Paul a doctor?
