The only way to get rid of Jeffries

Postby roy10 on Tue Nov 03, 2009 8:35 am

Jeffries + Nate for Morrison + Vujacic

Lakers like Nate and they are basically getting two bakcups they can use for garbage they don't need. Vujacic gets $1.4M less in 2010 and he is movable for an expiring at the deadline, especially i fyou add some $$$.

Do this deal, then move Vujacic + $3M for a useless expring. It's the only way to clear Jeffries' salary off of 2010.

I don't know about "the only way" claim of your post because I beg to differ.

That said it seems to me in this case the Lakers get a player they can resign in Nate and maybe Jefferies who can at least serve some kind of role on the court and we get proven garbage.

While I would love to get rid of Jefferies we are not getting back two expiring just one expiring and one player with slightly decreased salary which I do not think would be the difference maker.

Still oddly enough the idea is intriguing.

The idea is based on the fact the Vujacic would be movable for an expiring if the Knicks add some $$$. A team like the Bucks is up against the lux tax, so they might do Vujacic + $3M for Ridnaur. It saves them $3M is salary + lux tax this year and they get Vuajcic for the next year for basically free.

Wizards are in the same boat and I'm sure they would do Mike JAmes for Vujacic + $3M. Vujacic can be flipped for an expiring while Jeffries can't. This is why the deal makes sense.

I hear you but it is hard to make those moves based on what if scenerios. It is easy to say you are sure but in reality you just never know. It would be great if it were a certain thing however.

Worst case scenario is you're stuck with Vujacic who is $1.5M cheaper than Jeffries in 2010. Still better than keeping Jeffries on board.

Id be on the phone with Washington trying to work out a deal around Mike James...

NYK Trade: Jeffries, $3M cash
WAS Trade: James, Crittenton

NYK
C : Lee - Darko - Hill
PF: Chandler - Harrington
SF: Gallinari - Crittenton
SG: Hughes - Robinson - Landry
PG: Duhon - Douglas - James

WAS
C : Haywood - McGee - Davis
PF: Blatche - Jeffries - Jamison*
SF: Butler - Stevenson - McGuire
SG: Miller - Young
PG: Arenas - Foye

Washington would save about 500K off their cap this year ($1M if you factor in the lux tax). Plus the $3M we give them would net out to $4M in savings in 2009. They also get a solid backup to fill in for Jamison until he returns, who knows the system and most of the players.

We save almost $7M in 2010, which we can use for a 2nd player after our initial max guy. Washington isnt in the FA hunt for 2010 so the extra money really wont impact them much

Wizards won't do it. Jeffries makes too much money and they don't need him. They need a bigger incentive than saving just $1M this season to swap an expiring. The only way to do this is via Vujacic.

This idea has been thrown around a couple of times and I'd do it. No one is giving us expiring for Jeffries and Vujacic could actually hit open 3's or at least hustle and get some steals. Morrison is crap, but an expiring one.

i really like this idea. so a 3 way trade

Knicks Trade: Nate Robinson and Jared Jeffries to Lakers. 3 million cash to Wiz
Knicks Get: Adam Morrison and Mike James

Wiz Trade: Mike James to Knicks
Wiz Get: Sasha from Lakers, 3 mil cash from Knicks

Lakers Trade: Sasha to Wiz, Adam Morrison to Knicks
Lakers Get: Nate Rob and Effries from Knicks

that would be it right?

No way I'd do that. The machine is broken. Nobody wants him. Morrison is a deadweight. You can get much better value for Nate the Great.

Knicks shouldn't trade unless they are getting rid of Jefferies or Curry for an expiring.

Walsh is going to patient and wait. Jefferies is not playing bad and some team looking to make a statement in the playoffs might be interested in acquiring him. We'll have to see how the season shakes out and who gets injured.
