ugliest game ever?

Postby fatlever on Tue Nov 03, 2009 1:47 pm

lots of talk last night about the bobcats vs nets game being the ugliest game ever. that got me to thinking... could i remember a game that was uglier.

i think the ugliest game i ever remember watching was a hornets vs heat game back in 2000. this game was absolutely brutal to watch.

miami 56, hornets 65

Didn't Detroit and Indiana play a real low scoring game a few years back? I remember the Heat scoring like 52 points in a game but I don't remember what the other team scored. Might have been against the Knicks because I remember those 2 teams had a few stinkers against each other.

Celtics/Pistons barn burner playoff game in '02. 66-64 final. At least our game was supposed to be bad.

1st quarter:
Charlotte - 18
San Antonio - 13

2nd quarter:

San Antonio - 23

3rd quarter:
Charlotte - 17
San Antonio - 18

4th quarter:

I don't remember this game specifically...but it sure looks ugly. Crash & Okafor combined to go 1 of 18.

I think that might be the record low for a team in the shot-clock era

Well, low scoring = ugly game since then? As long is obviously great defense and not clueless ugly offense, isn't it ok for some)?

trust me... that hornets vs heat stinker wasnt good defense. it was bad offense + the height of that bull heat style where they would grab and maul you all over the court.

The good news about that Hornets/Heat game is only 13,000 people had to sit through it live

God i remember that team. They were supposed to be big players in free agency getting the likes of Jerry Stackhouse among others. Instead their prizes were Brent Barry (who only played one season with the Bulls), Mark Bryant (a role player who would have balooned up numbers), Andrew Lang (his 2nd to last season in the NBA), and Mario Bennet (had to look this one up. But 4 seasons in the NBA, played for 4 different teams, played a whopping 68 games total).

When you looked at that team, you saw a team that really had no chance...and frankly its amazing that they even won 13 games.

Winning 6 Rings in 8 seasons and being among the best teams in that era, pretty much meant they didn't much young talent. The vets that they kept were niche players outside of Kukoc. 5 guys on the team shot better then FORTY percent from the field, Kukoc was the only won to get more then 9 pts per game. But in all fairness, they only had 3 guys average double digit scoring. Those 3 missed 34 games combined. Keep in mind, 50 game season.

With an expansion team, you have the reasoning that you are an expansion team ands that why you are bad. Bulls didn't have that and it made it worse. You'd be looking up at championship banners FROM THE LAST 3 NBA SEASONS watching a team that looked like they were replacement players.

"Ever" is a very high standard.

In 1950, the Minneapolis Lakers beat the Fort Wayne Pistons 19 to 18.
Lebron was pondering a 30 yr, $90 jabillion deal from the Knicks, which fell through when Isiah Thomas was informed that James is not an unrestricted free agent, the Knicks have no cap room and that "jabillion" is not a real number. -- DJ Gallo

There were some UNC games in the four-corners era that finished like 20-22. The CHA-NJ game was spectacular in comparison to that.
