Would you trade...

Postby Esq-4 on Tue Nov 03, 2009 2:19 pm

WC with JJeff just to dump the salary for 2010?

It may or may not have been a mistake to have not moved JJ and Nate last year, but who knows what the real trade was. And can't go back now. But, even if the cap is 53 Mil, if we were to renounce the rights to all FAs and and got rid of JJ and WC (or Jordan Hill) we would have enough to get 2 Max FA.

Straight up for an expiring would be rough to just lost an asset like WC. But if we got back a pick too, well might be interesting.

For example:

???--Hill--Curry
Gallo--???--Landry
LBJ--???-???
Wade--???-???
???--Douglas

Man will that be weird if we just renounce everyone and get 2 max FA. Of course I would rather LBJ and Wade for example, but it would also be nice to actually keep the team in tact in the process. But I guess not much of a team.

What options do see in a trade for..(WC)

Postby Esq-4 on Tue Nov 03, 2009 2:24 pm

We don't have many assets outside of expirings. But the value of an expiring decreases when you won't take on salary, they are necessary to just hold on to. So really our only asset is WC. Can't trade Gallo, shouldn't trade Hill w/o knowing what we have, same for Douglas.

One of our biggest flaws is at the point. Duhon is good as a backup, but sometimes just frustrates me.

Any young pgs, rookie scale or on the cheap, that you would move WC too?

Would you be willing to trade WC and a future PROTECTED 1st for Rubio for the future?

Yes I know i just made 2 WC trade threads. I'm not a hater. I like the kid and would like to keep him. But realistically he is our only asset, and is a similar position to Gallo and our No. 1 FA target (LBJ), and my no. 1 the following year ('Melo). This is not an anti-WC thing.

No I wouldn't. You don't just give away a player like Chandler even if he isn't scoring like he did last season. To just use him as a "throw in" with Jeffries for a salary dump is pointless. Especially now when we're trying to get better interally and then next year get better externally.

We need players like Chandler around who can the things that won't show up on the stat sheet but are still vital to a team's success.

For example, the Rubio trade--
Blount, Cardinal, Wilkens for WC JJ Mobley future 1st

We give up WC and a 1st, but get back pg prospect and save 2010 salary.

could you post a more vague and theoretical trade?

JJ and Chandler for a useless expiring like Brian Cardinal for example?

No. Im not willing to ship Chandler off for nothing except the dream of a pair of max FAs. If we got a commitment this summer from Wade and LBJ then yes, Id dump them all the hell out but right now its less than likely that either are coming

You do raise an interesting question about Hill. Id be willing to move him to Mini for a pair of lesser picks next year and save that cash. Mini has 3 picks and Id welcome taking two from them and send them a big man prospect they can shove up their boring buts for all I care.

IMO Hill is the kind of guy you find late in a good draft, not early in the lottery even in a terrible draft.

I'd trade chandler if we shed Eddy Curry for an expiring and got a first round pick back, but not to move jeffries.

Like NLR said, I would trade anyone if we get a commitment from 2 max guys next summer. Right now, there is zero reason to use any assets to get rid of Curry or JJ. What if we use Chandler to get rid of Curry, have the max space and not one of the 4 max free agents, decides to come? Then it would have been a horrible move. We will use assets to make necessary trades when the time is right and the time is not now (unless we are getting value and not just K. Thomas' or B. Cardinal's expiring deal)

fair enough...I actually made another thread, I should have just kept it in one long one...

But in it I defended that trading WC is not b/c I'm down on him, its just b/c he is our only asset, if you think about it. And the we are praying to get LBJ, or (at least I am) Melo the next year. Yet we don't have C or PG. Of course I would like to keep him around if possible. And also, I would expect at least a pick back too of course.

I proposed this trade in the other thread...

WC, JJ, Mobley future PROTECTED 1st
for
Blount Cardinal Wilkens Rubio

Not only do we get a prospect PG, who happens to be Rubio, and we need not discuss all the related stuff about him, his buyout, Europe, Kahn blah blah blah, we also get rid of 2010 money.

Minny gets, a prospect wing, which they can use with all there big men (Love and Al Jeff) and pgs (Sessions and Flynn). Plus even though now they are on the hook for Rubio, they get to bail out of the headache that Rubio gave them, and extra future pick, and instant savings with Mobleys insurance.

Rubio saves us $ in 2010 b/c a) he might not come then; b) we can wait until after the FA period..right?

If I was sure that I would get LBJ/Wade, Bosh/Amare -- yes I would in a NY minute. If not, then there is no way. Because Chandler is too good to just give away and the move is too risky.

Same. I want something back for chandler, he is not just a tool to shed an expiring he is a player that has value and that value must be repaid in kind.

I would trade Chandler and Jeffries for an expiring and a late 1st round pick. That would open $9 million in cap room for 2010. The Knicks would have the most cap room in the league by far.

If we do trade Will it needs to be for a young, good player on their rookie contracts until 2011 that play either the PG, SG or C position.

I haven't put much thought into it because it's unlikely to happen any time soon, I don't think the organisation are ready to give up on Chandler yet, and even if they are they certainly wont trade him while his value is low.
