How far would you go to trade Curry & Jeffries for Expiring?

Postby KnicksManiac on Tue Nov 03, 2009 3:33 pm

How much would you give up with them?

Gallinari?
Chandler?
Hill?
Douglas?

If we had the opportunity to trade Curry AND Jeffries for expiring, I would trade anyone on this team except for Gallinari. I'd give up Chandler, Hill, AND Douglas if it meant we could rid ourselves of that $18 million salary for 2010. If we get rid of Curry and Jeffries for expiring while giving up Chandler, Hill, and Douglas, that means out cap number for 2010 is $3,304,560 (the salary of Danilo Gallinari).

Here is a trade I came up with to make that happen:

Knicks Trade: Eddy Curry, Jared Jeffries, Wilson Chandler, Jordan Hill, and Toney Douglas
Rockets Trade: Tracy McGrady, Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Joey Dorsey, and Frederic Weis

If we make that trade and the cap is at $55 for next season, we would have enough money to sign THREE max free agents. Unrealistic? Absolutely. Possible? YES!

Wouldn't mind this starting five (with a bench of minimum players) for next season though:

PG: Anyone who is competent
SG: Wade
SF: LeBron
PF: Gallinari
C: Amare OR Bosh

This is what happens when I'm in the middle of a 2.5 hour class that I am ridiculously bored in! :D

Gallinari is the only untouchable for me.

If there's a trade in which we can dump Curry and/or Jeffries for an expiring, I would throw in any one of our assets. I would also look to trade David Lee/Nate Rob this season as there's a good chance we lose them for nothing over the summer anyway.

No not a great idea. You have to keep your assets if you want to build for the future.

Anyone but Gallinari is worthless junk as far as I'm concerned.

I'd trade Jeffries at the deadline (if possible without giving away assets) and keep Curry. That's it.

It's absolutely ridiculous to jettison all our assets right now. Not to mention you would look like a fool if both Lebron and Wade sign an extension before june 30. People often forget but if the Cavs go to the Finals and Lebron wants to stay then he will likely sign an extension before june 30. Same for Wade.

After the playoffs, both players can sign an extension with their original teams. If push comes to shove and we need to clear more cap room then you can always use Chandler, Hill or Douglas as trade baits in july during the moratorium.

Right now I would keep everyone on the roster (Chandler, Gallo, Hill and Douglas), I wouldn't give away a player just to clear more cap room. The only player I would use as trade bait to clear more cap room is Nate Robinson.

james + melo by 2011 >>>>>>>> james+wade+bosh or ama're imo.

I'm not interested in dealing effries or curry if it means we get raped in the deal.what we need is more younger talent.
deandre jordan, rudy ferandez nick young, javale mcgee,m gasol, conley, rubio maybe even little jj barea would suffice.we need more young talent to compare and contrast with the nets. deandre jordan and rudy would leave us with as good a young core as the nets.they're our only comp for james(aside from the crapaliers)
eddy/darko
gallo/hill
chandler/landry
hughes/landry
douglas/hughes

get rid of lee, nate, harrington, effires and dudu.

Thats one hell of a gamble to make...you pretty much end up with your entire job on the line if that doesnt work out the way you envisioned it... I dont think any GM would have the balls to put all their eggs in one basket like that....

Unlike Iverson and the Grizzlies...somebody better make sure they talk to Lebron's peeps to make sure that he really is coming.

Are you confident in banking on the fact that Hill, Chandler, and Douglas ARE really assets we can use to build towards a good future?

You could then of course ask me if I am confident that we would sign three max FAs after making this deal though.

I'd try to package Jeffries with Nate. The odds of us keeping Nate are very low so we might try to package him with Jeffries and try our luck. I still don't get why Walsh opposes trading Mobley. If we could package Mobley/Jefrries and Nate for a big expiring that would give a potential trading partner the chance to get Nate without paying extra.....

You can't sign 3 max free agents because of the "phantom" contracts you have on your books when you don't have 12 players. These phantom contracts take up $500k cap room each, so that's $6M. So if you had no one on your roster you'd only be able to sign 2 max and one for around $12M.

I'd give up Lee or nate with JJ, I think that would be enough to get rid of his contract for an expiring. You'd have to give up Gallo or Wilson to get rid of Curry. I'd rather not do that. I'd rather trade JJ with Lee, sign one max (James?) and a big for around $10M (Chandler?) this summer and use Wilson to trade for a young point guard (Rubio?). Then either trade Curry's expiring for something good the following year, or let it expire and use the $12M for a shooting guard in 2011.

Curry is just bad karma, on our squad. Bad things will continue to happen to us as long as he's around. I'd trade him for a longer deal, just to get rid of him.
