Pacers Wolves trade

Postby 8305 on Tue Nov 03, 2009 5:49 pm

Nothing too complicated.

Pacers trade
Rush
Ford

Wolves trade
Sessions
Cardinal

I'm coming to the conclusion Rush will not be the #2 option for Granger we had hoped and Ford just doesn't fit. Pacers still need a long term answer at point guard.

You need help at the wing positions. Rush may not be a take charge offensive player but he should be an above average defender and at least an average shooter. He is also an above average athlete. Ford's contract only goes one year longer than Cardinal's and he should at least be a capable back up to Flynn.

If Indiana continues to struggle this season (I know it is early), maybe they give up Granger for the right package of expirings/picks?

Granger and Foster

for

Cardinal, Blount, rights to Rubio and Pekovic

I believe it works in trade checker...

EDIT*** - forgot Granger was BYC. Nevermind, sorry.

No because of TJ Ford's contract.

I would do Watson and Rush for Sessions and Pecherov; but I don't know if other wolves fans would or not.

While I think a Sessions trade is possible, the initial trade costs MIN $6.5 mil of raw cap space this year. I have to think MIN can do better standing pat, with Sessions + "trade the cap space" than with Ford and Rush.

As for Granger, he's the Pacer's #1 guy and best reason to hope for the future. They would want a lot more than an unproven Rubio before they'd consider trading him.

Trading Ford for Sessions doesn't do much for me. Ford is way too injury prone, and he would give us another sub 6' PG, which I don't think teams need more than one of (Flynn is listed at 6' but oh boy is that generous)

The Pacers will not give up on their three year plan to turn the franchise around, this is year 3.

It started with Granger, continued with Hibbert and Rush, and Hansborough followed up last year.

Play bad and maybe they'll trade Granger???

Larry Bird doesn't have to make a deal AT ALL!!! They are going to have the $$$ and the players in place to bring somebody in to Indiana to play alongside Granger come 2011 and then some, they stand with roughly 35 million dollars in room to make moves on that summer alone.

Who could they target in 2011?

How about Dwight Howard AND Jamer Nelson outright from the Magic?
Carmelo Anthony?
Glen Davis?
Tayshaun Prince (Granger can play SG with Prince at SF)?
Just about anybody they want from the Oden-Durant draft class including Conley, Gordon, etc.

....and the list goes on and on!!!!

Needless to say Pacers aren't interested in trading Granger. Not sure even a package of Jefferson and Rubio would get that done from my perspective. If the OP doesn't work due to the loss of the expiring contract in exchange for Ford an alternative might be

Pacers trade
Rush
Watson
Wolves trade
Sessions
Ellington

You're upgrading at a position where you need help and losing something at a position you have covered.

DWCP2 - if I read you right, you're saying that all your young picks are the foundation of a great team (of course!), your other contracts will expire (how unique!), and then you'll be able to get Dwight Howard or someone to choose to live in Indiana?

Wow -- I think MIN doesn't need to make a trade either, because that's our plan too! Every pick will be great, every bad player will expire, and superstars will flock to our team. Dynasty.

Since MIN isn't competing this season, Watson has no more value than an expiring. So on the Wolves end, the question would be is Brandon Rush, on his rookie contract, worth Sessions and Wayne Ellington? I don't think he has that much value. At a minimum, someone other than Wayne Ellington should be included - perhaps Jawai or Hart, when they are eligible.

I like the deal from a talent standpoint, but I'd rather roll the dice w/ cap space in 2010

Wolves pass.

Sessions is an ideal young veteran PG for the Wolves. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
