start Jason Terry

Postby vanjulio on Wed Nov 04, 2009 9:32 am

I know this is going to sound stupid because I am an outsider - but as Grizzly fan it makes me sick seeing Quinton Ross start every game. I think NBA should take away Terry's 6th man award for this. It's a joke. Quinton Ross plays like 5 minutes as a starter and Terry gets 35+ a night. What gives?

I guess it has become a tradition. Can you fill me in? Why don't you start a true NBA player? I realize Josh Howard is hurt. But come on!

Clearly you do not watch enough of the Mavericks. JET is awful this year and does not deserve to start even with Josh out. Terry knows his role is to be the spark off the bench, even if that does include playing 35 minutes per night.

I would start terry. When he's in the game we have our most potent guard combo and I think our best chemistry group. That said you almost can't start him, cause without him our reserves give next to nothing, while the starters can handle themselves without him.

Ross has great +\- stats and this is because he gives you 15 minutes worth of hustle on the other teams (generally) best player. Ideally he injects defensive playmaking into a group with already enough offensive prowess. You also hope there is a residual effect of his energy at the start late in the games when ur best scorers are guarding their best scorers.

Ross has been better than I expected this year. He needs to continue starting until JHo returns. Terry is best off the bench and shouldn't start unless Carlisle thinks it will help his slump.

thanks for the ideas. Ross does play great defense for his size especially and his 3pT% is ok sometimes. he can surprise you. let's face it the other guys do all the scoring you'll ever need anyway.

What has Terry done this year that would give me the starting job? Shooting 34% from the field or 28% from 3? Or maybe its the steller defense..

After watching the game vs New Orleans I would even put Beaubois at the starting 2 ahead of Terry. Beaubois produced well starting, Terry produced great off the bench.

Anyone other than Ross would be good, I'm still kind of surprised he was the guy we signed. I'd prefer Beaubois to keep Terry's scoring punch coming off the bench.

And everyone who's ripping on JET's percentages needs to chill and realize they'll be right where they've always been. It's early in the season and a couple bad nights will kill those numbers. Pointguard, see the NO game for JET's credentials.

Maybe Terry and Ross should switch roles...Terry becomes the starter playing 5mpg and Ross comes off the bench to play 35mpg.

For some reason the Mavs organization and fans have always had some weird/stupid infatuation with the 6th man award going all the way back to Tarpley (Jamison, Nick Van Excel, Stack, Terry, etc...). I think they purposely put NBA quality starters on the bench to win that award. However, I'm one to question whether Terry is actually a quality NBA starter. Coming off the bench seems to work fairly well for him and the Mavs as a whole.

Personally, I think bench players (like Terry) who have a high percentage of PT in the final 3 minutes of games should be disqualified from winning that award.
