Erick Dampier DUST Time Count

Postby catalyst on Wed Nov 04, 2009 12:29 pm

Damp has to play 2100 minutes this season to guarantee his contract for next season. I am nervous he will best that number with no other back up C in place. So far he has. Here is the tally

Wash 10/27 - 29:01
LAL - 10/30 - 17:39
LAC - 10/31 - 34:42
Utah - 11-3 - 38:15
NO - 11/4 - 33:46
Tor - 11/7 - 18:17
Hou - 11/11 - 32:26
SA - 11/12 - 18:23
Minny 11/13 = 20.09

9 Games
243 Minutes
27:00 Avg
1857 minutes to go

Damp has to average 30 ppg to get there in the 70 highest games. I am guessing that he will just miss.

Go Damp Go!!!! I hope he gets his 2100 minutes this season. I want him back next year. Screw the stupid DUST chip. I would rather have Damp than trade him for an overpaid wing player.

I would rather trade him and someone else to get a star FA or Star Player and then re-sign him for vet min after he got bought out from his new team

Ok then. Well what team is going to donate their star player to us for nothing more than cap relief? Does Orlando want to dump Dwight Howard??? or Miami D wade???? or Cleveland Lebron???? OKC Durant??? Denver Melo??? etc,etc,etc... Its a nice dream but not really ever going to happen outside of NBA2K10.

Well actually i could see miami doing a howard + damp and picks for wade and maybe one of their unloved contracts. this is way better than loosing him for nothing. to add to that, the mavs are in the opposing conference, which is also plus for dallas in contrast to teams like NY or NJ

Don't be dumb guys.

1) There is ZERO chance of Damp getting his minutes. Carlisle will play JJB at the center before Damp can get his 2100. Why? Because he'll get fired otherwise. We all know the deal- this is our one shot at a big trading chip.

2) With Damp, we basically get a free player that MAY be overpaid or MAY be pretty good. Why is it free? Because no matter what team Damp goes to, he's getting cut 100% guaranteed. We all know Cuban loves to overpay, so he'll just bring Damp back for the MLE or whatever. Either way, we get a player that's worth MORE than the MLE for basically the MLE (except the money goes to Damp instead of the star player).

3) While it's not extremely likely we'll get a superstar in return for Damp, a trade consisting of Howard, Damp, Beaubois, and someone like Calathes + 3 2nd round picks sounds pretty enticing to me- especially if your star is definitely going to walk.

Like other have said...

1) Dampier wont get him minutes, plan and simple. Gooden/Howard will both take minutes away.

2) Dampier will be cut and Im sure Dallas didnt use their BAE this past offseason, so they can give Dampier a 2 year, 3+million contract and still have their MLE to use.

3) Even if Dampier doesnt bring in a Wade/LeBron/ect type player, Dallas could still make this a huge bonus to our team.

At the very least, it could be something like Eddy Curry's expiring 11 million dollar contract + Wilson Chandler + 2011 1st rounder. This would give Dallas some much needed youth with Chandler + the pick, not to mention a huge expiring contract to trade, and the ability to resign Dampier, but it also gives New York the ability to two big time players.

If Dallas is lucky, they can pull off something for a Dwayne Wade or Joe Johnson, but even though its unlikely, Dallas will still have the ability to help themselves tremendously in some department, without losing much, if anything.

To me it is just sit back and enjoy. Should Damp reach his goal the Mavs chances of playing real significant playoff ball increases if not well than same song 2nd round all over again.

Of he does hit the number, then mavs fans should be pleased. He would have had to earn that time. I am just enjoying the controversy that I. a rarely controversial poster, am causing.

Right now, Damp seems to be in some sort of "contract year" mood. :D

If he keeps this up, he could easily play enough minutes to make the final year of his contract guaranteed. I wouldn't really like that unless his contributions this season help the Mavs win a championship. Who'd then care about the DUST chip anyway? :)

Just look at it this way, Damp is actually in 2 contract seasons so maybe he will be productive with heavy minutes.
Look how good he was with GSW the year before we made the trade for him (S&T).

Although I doubt he gets the minutes because the Mavs know the value of his contract, I wouldn't mind him coming close because that would mean he'd have to keep up the level of play he's been showing of late. That'd be pretty ideal to resign him next summer too, I doubt that the vet minimum is enough to get it done, but the BAE may be able to. I'd love to see more offensive boards and tip backs like last night, his free throw shooting may even have won us the game in crunch time oddly enough.

Damp has only had 2 seasons with 2100+ minutes. The last was his last contract year. WOuld someone spend all or part of their MLE on Damp if he was 9/8/2?
