OT: Japan

Postby Cigamodnalro on Wed Nov 04, 2009 1:17 pm

Anyone have any experience with the country or the language? I'll be living there from March through July, as of yesterday. Looking for advice on where to travel/live.

I took a course to learn the language but that ended miserably. I found that knowing four languages might just be enough already.

I've visited the country once. It's a nice place, but it was a pain in the pocket. Definitely one of my most expensive vacations to date. Besides that, everything was great.

Yeah, I've been watching youtube videos. A bag of rice is $40.00 there. which is crazy, since it practically rains rice in japan. I think it may be too expensive to live IN tokyo, but i wanna be somewhere nearby.

My friend has been in Kyoto for a semester doing an immersion language study abroad program.

Don't know too much about the country, but he said the women have American fetishes there. He's never had a problem finding an attractive girl who would go on a date on him just for the fact he was an American.

One of my friends was headed over there anyway, and i wanted to do something crazy before lawschool. Have a few thous. still in the bank, and i figured....why the **** not. I think it's a cool language and culture to begin with, and Japanese girls are pretty sweet. I figure this is my last chance to really travel around and stuff, and so it's worth it to me to take advantage of that.

I have the Rosetta stone, but haven't really started with it yet. I hear it's not all that heard to learn to speak the language though. Writing it is a lot harder apparently.

Well if you have cash to burn, I agree, why not. It'll be a great experience and probably worth the money spent anyway. Besides, I splurged on food so maybe that's part of the reason why I shelled out so much on that trip.

Well what's cheap there? I've budgeted for rent and all of that stuff, but if food is as expensive as youtube/you say it is, that's definitely going to cut into things.

You'd think rice would be practically free, since it's a huge export for them to begin with.

Cheap??? depends on the place but their electronics really. Oh and their food is one of the most expensive in the world, bot just their rice but even their sushi and stuff.

Oh and if you are caucasian , you will definetely be able to score some chicks Diener-style. They have fetishes there for the blonde and blue-eyed
