MLSE Resolved Issue(update pg12). Now about that shouting..?

Postby G-Mac on Wed Nov 04, 2009 11:41 pm

Hey everyone,

Long time reader, occasional poster, this is my first thread, if it needs to be locked quickly by all means, and i'm sorry its not the most positive of topics.

My sister went to her first Raptors game tonight, incredibly excited to check out our lovable Raps. When she wanted to get a beer (She is 23), a female usher said she would have to double check her ID because it was out of province before she could get my sister a beer (we are nova scotian, i know nova scotia ID's seem to be the easiest to fake, she has only lived in Toronto for a year). A usher/security man comes back calls her over and immediately starts harassing her that it is fake. She said it wasnt, he was laughing at her saying he has seen them so many times, and just finished studying how to tell when IDs are fakes, and would show this to his class about what a Fake ID looks like, it was also one of his first days on the job. Afterwords, he essentially threatened to kick her out if she did not tell him it was a fake. He even went as far as to say if he needed to show this to the police, she may have to spend a night in jail! She started to get scared and was crying, and he was not going to let her get away with saying anything less that "yes this is a fake ID". She went with a friend, and this guy was extremely mean to her as well. She ended up leaving the game (her first game ever may I reiterate in 180 dollar seats that she won in a contest) to get a passport to prove her age so she could try and get her ID back.

This kills me, and whats worse is she was saying to me "Chris bosh and the players are always saying how its all about the fans, for me to go to my first game and get harassed like that, it really hurts."

I just wanted to ask the members of this forum if you have ever received despicable treatment like this, and what avenues she should take to correct this major wrong. She has filed a complaint and has been told it may or may not lead to her getting a meeting with the persons boss who she filed a complaint with.

I am really disappointed about this situation, if this does not deserve to be on realgm I will understand, but I feel like this forum has people that might be closer to the situation and might be able to give me some suggestions.

Thanks for reading.

If she's 23 and has a Nova Scotia license, chances are she got it around the same time I got my new one, about three or four years ago. And yeah, the older ones tend to raise eyebrows...I've had problems using mine in Nova Scotia because they look so sketchy. The bloody face of the thing is even crooked.

I wouldn't take it personally; at large venues like the ACC, they tend to be on the crazy side because the penalties for selling booze to minors are so high.

Why did she panic if it's not fake. The security guy can't do anything about it and then he'd get fired if he did. Plus you'd get compensated. That sucks for her though.

Wow, that is just awful! I have always had positive experiences at the ACC, but I really hope she gets some sort of retribution. That is really poor judgement and decision making on security's part.
welcome to dinosaur team and championship time.

Thanks for the responses.

I've heard a lot of stories about N.S ID's getting taken and so has she, but it was the way the guy went about it. She would have been fine if he just said we can't give you a beer and have to hold onto your ID until tomorrow becuase these are so frequently faked, and just let her return to her seat, but he just made a big deal about it, as if he was gloating he "caught" someone on his first day.

I also kinda see your point about her not needing to panic (panac if you will lol), but as soon as someone mentions jail, its a freeze up thing, especially for my sister, shes really quiet and never gets into major issues with people.

there are police all over the ACC....all she had to do was pull one of them over.

That said, its unfortunate she missed the game. If i were her i'd write a letter/email to Bryan C and Mr Peddie. Be mature about it.....the guy being "mean" is going to sound whiny. Say - i was almost kicked out of the game and my ID was held because the staff do not recognize Nova Scotian IDs. That is something that should raise some eyebrows.

Forget the guy's boss. Go to the top. **** rolls downhill, not up.

btw = if she hasn't gotten her ID back you might recommend that she goes to a policeman right now. They do not have the right to take her ID, and she presumably needs it to drive.

Some people really can't do confrontation. Even when they're clearly in the right and know it, they'll still back down as soon as someone raises their voice. The calm, rational thing would have been to simply suggest that they run the ID through the police but obviously she got scared at the threats.

Security guy was a total a-hole. Even if he really suspected it was fake, there's absolutely no reason to terrify the poor girl. Just call the damn police if you're so sure. Just sounds like one of those guys who goes nuts with a little bit of authority.

Your sister and yourself have every right to be upset the way it was handled. The gloating and mocking is completely uncalled for. I hope she gets a chance to catch another raptor game in the future because it is usually a great experience.

Bell: So, did you get to watch the raptors game tonight?
Rogers: Nope, apparently 75% of Torontonians can't, its on your TSN2!!!
MLSE: Screw bell and rogers,. The games are not available, fans have no choice but to come watch us live!!!!

As someone mentioned earlier, as far as I know even a drivers license , nobody has the right to keep your ID ( if legitimate) , even the police don't have the right to keep it unless you have committed a serious crime i.e DUI.

if i were you i'd go back to the ACC talk to the floor manager
file a complaint and state you want compensation or something
1) ask for every persons name and employee number, just to let them know your serious
2) ask for their direct superior
3) tell them you want immediate action or your take matters legally if need be, just to scare them etc

works for me :D

I hope she finds a way to get that usher/security man fired because of that. Write MLSE or the ACC.
