whats up with thad?

Postby sweetlou23 on Thu Nov 05, 2009 6:40 am

he has been mediocre (i'm being generous here) on offense and horrible on defense. he has been missing wide open shots, blowing simple rotations and failing to close on three point shooters. he is supposed to be the third option of the big three and he needs to pick up his level of play.

while i have absolutely no min break down to back it up (aka anything close to facts :) ) I get the feeling that alot of Thad's success last year came in his ability to take slower PF's off the dribble, or with quickness in the post... something he can't do as easily at the 3. Or it could be he, like most of the sixers, don't get the Princeton and so he's a fish outta water on O.

what's his excuse on d? some people act like thad is better than iggy, i just don't see it. iggy plays better d, boards better, has better handles, is a better passer, gets to the cup better, etc. and right now shoots better than thad.

Iggy is also older...Thad is 21 years old. plus has been playing outta position for the last few years...There will be some growing pains with the completely different position.

I called this tho. after 3 years We always start turning on dude. I remember when we first got Iggy everybody was all He's gonna be an allstar. Now it's we should trade his ass.

I do not follow the above. I do not believe "playing out of position" has anything to do w/ being 4/16 and not covering your guy. Does not compute.

Who wants to trade Iggy. I believe he will be an allstar this year or next.

Just don't follow ya!

Now, Thad is not playing basketball this year. He needs to start playing and stop Tweeting (joke before you jump on me). Just don't get the poor shooting. His defense has always been suspect and needs to learn how to defend.

If he does not start to soon, this is going to be a very, very long year for us sixer fans.

What I was getting at was the fact that a few years ago Thad was the **** on this board and few season before that Iggy was as well.

but on topic, It's one game people. Thad was coming off of a 25 point game. Plus the Celtics were leaving him wide open and if he had been canning them it would be a different story. Nowe I will agree that Thad has improved as much as he has been doing year to year. His Handle is still sloppy and his cheats off of his man leading to open 3's ( This was actaully our defensive system last yearm but I have no clue what the issue is this year) but still Dude is 21 and is nowhere near his peak. He's allowed to have **** games every so often. Thad is a smart dude he'll get it. Don't press the panic button yet...

now Brand is another story...

On offense thad hasnt been that bad, he had arguably the worst game of his career against the best defensive team in the league. In the previous game he had just dropped 25, on 9-14 fg, and 7-8 free throws. To make a long story short he just had a bad game, like alot of other sixers yesterday. (Speights 3-11, Lou 3-10, Brand 2-6, Green 3-7) Igoudala was really the only one who showed up to play against boston. This thread should be "whats up with the entire sixers offense?" instead of just about thad.

But i do agree he needs to improve on his defense though, he has the size and the speed, he just needs the determination. Defense is 90% effort, if he puts as much effort on offense as he does on defense he could become a great player.

I think thad will snap out of it. I remember last year in the middle of the season he begin struggling with his shooting. Then about a week or so later he had numerous games where he seemed to be the only one shooting the ball well and guys were looking for him. He told reported that he watched a bunch of tape on his shot and worked on some things, which turned things around for him. With his work ethic i have faith he will improve and add even more to his game.

Defensively he has alot of work to do as well, but I think he has to get used to hanging out more on the perimiter guarding SF's. I think it's going to take some time. I would like for him to get his rythm back hitting those open shots but if he doesnt than the sixers should just sub him out for kapono, ad let him play more with the starters to provide that shooting the starting lineup is missing.

I think Speights is going to be the better player in 3 years than Thad is. Speights is looking really good this season, and Thad still can't develop a consistent jumper. I'm so sick of people not being able to shoot on this team. Watching people miss wide open jumpers is one of the most annoying things in all of sports. Right up there with popping up with RISP in baseball.

The Sixers always start out the season rough, there is no need to panic right now. It will be a very long season if we want to blow the team up everytime someone has a bad game. As it has been pointed out Thad is 21, playing a new position and has a new PG and PF to play with and a n ew coach.

That being said, yes, his defense is a concern and I think he still has to prove he can defend in this league.

It's funny that a few year ago Thad was going to 2x the player Iggy was....now it's Speights, few more season it's going to John McJohnerson the new rookie/sophmore we have gonna be 5x the player Speights is. It's a never ending cycle.

How bout we realize every player we get won't/ nor do they have to be a frikken all-star.. Thad/Speights/Jrue were drafted in the mid parts of their respective drafts, if Thad doesn't become any better (and he will) then we didn't quite get the steal we though we did. We sure turn on our players mad fast.

also....ONE GAME!!!

GOD people are overreacting. It's 4 games into the season and hes **** 21 years old. Iggy started out slow his previous 2 seasons and he was 23 and 24. But did he just stay a below average player? No. He progressed as the season went along. Come on guys, Thad was amazing at times last year. You can't think it's just a fluke. And plus he just came off a great game against the Knicks. So it's not like he has been complete **** throughout the whole season. Jeez just give it some time before we dub him a failur and demanding his departure. And again he's he's just 21.

I had inklings last year that Speights had a higher ceiling than Thad. This isn't anything new.
