Are the Magic the perfect fit for...

I was talking with someone about the Magic and they said that with the way the Magic are built and play the game, Shaq would fit in really well as Howards backup.

With Shaq, the Magic could continue their inside-out offensive attack even when Howard goes to the behch. They can throw the ball into Shaq the same they do with Howard and surround him with shooters. The Magic could keep one steady, effective offensive approach for a whole 48 minutes. Whereas in Phoenix and Cleveland they run their offense primarily through players like Nash and Lebron, the Magic or Shaq wouldn't have to change their style of play to adjust to one another because they both already compliment one another. He could be for the Magic what Mourning was to the Heat in their championship run.

Now some of the problems would be if Shaq would accept being a backup to Dwight and also what it would take to get him. The Cavs would probably want Lewis because he would also fit their team well with 4 guys spreading the floor for James. So the Cavs would get better as well.

Would you go for Shaq if the opportunity presented itself this season? Or would you try for Shaq in the off-season for next year? Or do you think Shaq wouldn't be a good fit in Orlando?

Lewis for Shaq? why would we give up an allstar for a washed up 11ppg 20mpg player - and pay the same money for him?

As for Shaq in the offseason? i'm pretty sure his big mouth has burnt any bridges back to Orlando. well, for the foreseeable future at least.

and yes, Gortat>Shaq.

Shaq would never be Dwight's backup. He would retire before he would do that to his own ego

agreed. with everything shaq has said, he would never ever accept coming in as dwight's back up. he still thinks he's the best center in the league eventhough all signs point to that being howard. i also agree that gortat, if he gets his head straight on, is way better than shaq at this point of his career.

We kind of do this already with Brandon Bass. When he is in the game they post him quite a bit. This is one of the reasons why he was such a good addition.

Unfortunately we don't give Gortat the time of day offensively. He has shown that he has some post moves. I think we should go to him more when he comes in for Dwight. We should never rely on chucking the 3.

Edit: As for Shaq, it isn't a terrible idea. He is still one of the best post options in the league and he would look good surrounded by our shooters. However,

1. Orlando doesn't like him.

2. Shaq would never be a backup, let alone to Dwight.

3. Trading Lewis would make Cleveland a lot better. We don't want that.

The only way I would ever have Shaq working for the Magic (we all know he's moving here after he's done... he calls o-town his primary home) would be if he wanted to be a coach for Howard. That would be assuming his ego died down after he retired (when history gives him the legitimacy he seeks, and he's no longer competing for it on a night to night basis). He'd be the perfect coach for Howard... he could do a lot more than Ewing, at least.

As a player?

No sir, no sir, no sirrrrrr.

that wouldn't surprise me. Shaq's ego is so big that he'd still want to attach his name to the greatest big man in the L.

"yep, i taught him everything he knows"

i can just imagine it now, and it makes me cringe. but i could handle it if Dwight became the offensive powerhouse that Shaq was.

I would NEVER trade Rashard Lewis and his OBSCENE contract for Snaquille Oatmeal.

The guy is on his last legs, and even as a serviceable back-up, trading Rashard Lewis would hurt this team a lot more than it would help.
