The Jazz will screw up this draft if Sloan is on board....

Postby Jazzercise on Thu Nov 05, 2009 6:49 pm

Heard it here first.....

If the Utah Jazz have a top five pick this year (via the New York Knicks) they will screw it up if Sloan is still on board. It is incredibly apparent that the Jazz need an athletic big who can play d, get higher then two feet off the ground, and move up and down the floor with ease. Now, with our current FO and coach, I seriously believe it will not be possible for Sloan and co. to get this player due to Sloan's "System." These guys have serious issues scouting big men and are obviously inept at finding good players at that position. Just look at the history people. Sloan needs to go, period. His system is getting old, and I'm tired of seeing these loafs running, scratch that, make it jogging down the floor. Just watch the game tonight and see. Memo and Booz loafin' it. It is time for change.....

Yea, it doesnt matter who is the coach. The jazz will screw it up. Deron is a great player and all, but Utah should of picked Paul. At least paul plays defense.

I love Deron, but you are probably right. The Jazz would rather pick "system" guys rather than picking explosive/big play athletes. I'm not exactly sure why, but that just seems to be the case. Hell, look at what the Blazers did in ONE draft when they picked both Aldridge and Roy. Those picks alone have set them up for quite a while. The Jazz need a new GM something fierce. Seriously. Quit drafting stiffs.

Well, the Jazz have had exactly one top 10 pick since drafting Thurl Baily in 1983. Think that might have something to do with their failure to acquire an athletic big through the draft?

Here we go...

Year.............Jazz Draft.................Athletes Still Available
2008.............K.Koufos..................N.Batum
2007.............M.Almond................A.Brooks
2006.............R.Brewer................R.Rondo, Shannon Brown, Jordan Farmar
2005.............D.Will.....................C.Paul, M.Webster, A.Bynum, D.Granger
2004.............K. Snyder, K.Humphries, P.Podlolzin..............A.Jefferson, Josh Smith, J.R. Smith, Kevin Martin
2003...........Aleksandar Pavlovic............Travis Outlaw, Kendrick Perkins, Barbosa, Josh Howard

Now, looking back on that we've done....OK. The years that REALLY hurt us are 2004, and 2003. Now, taking into consideration that every other team that passed those guys has the same problem the Jazz have, we did miss out on some VERY good players. That should sum the non-athletic problems we have.

In 2004, the Jazz went for two athletic guys in Humphries and Snyder and look how that turned out. I'm not saying we shouldn't draft athletic guys, but drafting one doesn't automatically means he'll be a great player.
I do agree that if it comes to draft night and we have a shot at a great prospect, especially if it's an athletic shotblocking big and we draft that 7 foot kid from Lithuania who's supposed to be the next Dirk (as good as he might be), I'm gonna have a **** heart attack.

Steals don't necessarily mean good defense. In fact, I would much rather have a lock down defender than a steals leader. I think Paul's defense is overrated. I'm glad we have Deron because of his size. A PG of that size with his skills is not common. It will be a great asset to us when we get the rest of our team figured out.

I'm pretty sure Utah has been drafting athletes all along, just they pick quite a few of brain dead players. Deron, Brewer, & Koufos are some of the best athletes that were available, and CJ Miles and Millsap have the same argument. The only years we have really messed up are when we take guys like Morris Almond, Robert Whaley, Suton, etc that really were just good college players rather than potential NBA guys. I think Maynor will be the same deal, but his pick n' roll IQ was amazing in college. I doubt Utah can mess up this year unless they take that Montaunus wannabe Dirk guy. I see Ed Davis, Monroe, Favors, and perhaps Brackins all panning out.

It is only halftime of Jazz vs spurs, but guess who is killing us. Yep Tony Parker. It appears to me that every point guard does well against us this year.

Ya 03 and 04 are the only years the Jazz really dropped the ball in the draft. You cannot possibly try to argue that the Jazz made a mistake taking Williams over Paul. IMO D-Will is the perfect fit for this team. While Paul would have been great to have I don't think I would change who the Jazz picked if I could. Williams > Paul in the Utah system.

Tony Parker is Tony Parker. He's going to get his. It's been said many times by actual players and coaches that Deron is one of the best defenders on the team. I'm not saying he's perfect, but what the hell are we complaining about? He's hardly a liability. He is one of the two best PG's in the damn league an we're whining about anything we possibly can.

I agree that steals can be overrated. I've read many articles about how Chris Paul gambles too much on defense, and that he'd be better if he just played solid man D, even if the SPG went down.

And I'm not dissapointed with the Jazz in drafts. Brewer was a solid pick, Miles/Koufos/Fes/ are ALL 2nd rounders with potential, and Deron is easily one of the 2 best players in the draft.

the draft is still quite some time away, with that said there is one kid that has really caught my interest.

Evan Turner from Ohio State.
Guard/Forward Height: 6' 7" Weight: 205

I think this kid is going to be the real deal.

While Paul is getting rediculous numbers as usual, he's an underachiever with his roster. I'm happy with Williams and I wouldn't trade him for Paul.
