How has Kapono played this year?

Postby LieCheatSteal on Thu Nov 05, 2009 8:25 pm

Hey, what's up?

Haven't been around lately so I haven't caught any Sixer games. Just interested in what the Sixer board thinks of Jason Kapono now that he's a Sixer. I couldn't stand him as a Raptor so I thought I was away from him when I came to Philly. Now that he's a Sixer, it makes me want to watch the Sixers way less. So, before I wade into a Sixer game this year, how has he been? For the Raps, he would try to play too much outside of his own skill set. He was a awkward dribbler and penetrator. Terrible on D. For the best shooter in the league, he would actually shoot very little. Judging by his line, he hasn't faired to badly the first couple of games.

Thoughts on "Crapono"?

Lack luster defense, but good team defense like Korver. Seems to prefer the mid rang J over the 3, which mean he puts the ball on the floor a lot which doesn't always end well. And I don't seem to trust him when he squares up like I did when Kyle would launch one. But I guess he's been hitting a fair amount.

Yup, that's pretty much him. His preference for the mid range J is ridiculous, IMO. Good team defense? I guess the Sixers can cover for Kapono more than the Raptors ever could.

I'll keep it simple.

He can't play in the NBA except in the 3 point contest.

He stinks.

I hate watching him already.

It makes me long for the good ole days of Reggie Evans...

Kapono has been one of the few bright spots this year ( outside of the Knicks game but he isn't a defensive player..okay he sucks there ..but still). So you want Mr. IMMA POINT GAWD NAO back...the hell? I like Reggie but Kapono ( andd Speights) has been the only 2 good bench players we have. He was never going to be a savior but he's shootin 50% from 3 and those midrange shot are good shots. What do you want, for him to shoot nothing but 3's? His percentage would plummet. Great 3pt shooters take only the good shots. geez

What gets on my nerves is Jordan brings him in with all the other scrubs, which really limits his best asset, the outside shot. You're not gonna get many good open threes with a linup of Speights-Smith(who stinks btw), Green-Thad- Ivey....

I'd like to see him get some run with Lou-Iggy-Brand on the court.

Kapono has been good so far. He's no Korver, but he beats Reggie Evans layup missing @$$

As others have suggested, he'll be of better use IF Jordan learns how to use him in the rotation. He should be on the floor with this at least 2 of these players at any given time:

Louis Williams
Andre Iguodala
Elton Brand
Marreese Speights

Williams/Iguodala because they can create off the dribble
Brand/Speights because they can score down low

I think he's been better this year than he was with Toronto. I can only remember one really bad turnover, and very few forced shots. I like him so far.

Just kidding about missing Reggie Evans. I mean, really...

The little I have seen of Kapono is him missing a crucial FT to win the Knicks game, and seeing him miss every shot he has taken.

Glad he seems to be playing better tonight, but boy, do I miss KK's sweet stroke...

Saw on the wiretap that Coach Jordan is looking for one of the SF's or SG's off the bench to step up.

If this team can get a SG off the bench to make threes, play defense, and get to line this team can compete with Orlando and Boston.

There is actually a player who is a combination of Green, Kapono, and Carney.

In his last season in the d-league 24.7 ppg, 47% fg, 42% 3 pt%, 84% FT, 4rpg, 4apg, 7 FTA's a game.

He played in Europe and the d-league. His name is Desmon Farmer.

I think the lineup with Speights, Smith and Kapono brings a lot of energy to our 2nd unit...although you need to pair those guys with a backcourt that can defend (say, Holiday and Iggy).

I think Kapono is a BIG roster upgrade over Evans - particularly now that Smith is back.

I think the bench got a huge upgrade just by getting rid of Evans. Kapono did what he was brought here to do last night. I have no qualms with him right now.

Looking at the Sixers and around the league I can only ID a few guards whose addition could make the Sixers contenders"

Kobe, Dwade... and I guess Desmon Farmer :)

When you say, "a player who is a combination of Green, Kapono, and Carney. " I hope you don't mean shoots like Green, defends like Kapono and passes like Carney... because that sounds a lot like me.

I think he's done his job as to what we have asked him to do. You people have so much freakin hate no wonder Philly teams never win. Kapono was asked to be a shooter off the bench for us and that is what he has done. He's done it very well too.

It's funny. Everything that's been said about Kapono here is the same from the Raptor board for the past 2 years. The most common is "the coach isn't using Kapono correctly".

I think Raps fans would enjoy Reggie Evans more than Sixer fans would Kapono. Rap fans have never seen defense from a big man since Oakley-Willis. Kapono makes Korver look like Jordan. I can't stand him.
