2011 Free agency.

Postby Slipknotic2436 on Fri Nov 06, 2009 12:15 am

I've heard quite a bit of talk around this franchise about the 2011 free agency period from guys such as john hammond and co, but however i am not sure about whos contracts are expiring around the league. the only guys contracts that i know is Redds and Gadz (thank God). so if anyone has a list of expiring contracts for 2011 around the nba, or just some info on specific players that are expiring and would make sense for us to go out and get, please share them with me.

thank you.

I want Jeff Green. He will probably be extended/matched but I would really want him here. JR Smith is another player I would like to see us try and sign. CDR, DeAndre Jordan and Derrick Brown are players I'd look at as well.

There are some who think we are clearing out salary so we can go after guys in 2011 and some who think we are clearing out salary so the team can be sold in 2011.

by "sold" do you mean like moved out of milwaukee or just different owner but staying in milwaukee. I ask only because i can't stand the thought of this franchise not being in milwaukee right after we got our star player.

Those guys would just be more of the same. Below average guys masquerading as building blocks.
There is hope, but not for us.

It depend on stuff. Probably the current BC lease and if the new owner could get a new arena built. But I do know Kohl has it in his will right now that if he were to kick the bucket, the Bucks couldn't leave Milwaukee whenever it got into new ownership...I really think Kohl wants the Bucks in Milwaukee, just I don't know if he wants to own them anymore

Well CDR, Jordan and Brown are all "potential" players but if you honestly feel Jeff Green and JR Smith are below average players I don't know what to say.

Obviously you don't go out and give them $12 million contracts and I don't feel any of those players are legit game changers like say a Carmelo Anthony (who we have no shot at getting) but if you can get them at reasonable price they are for sure building blocks.

If Jennings can become a "star" point guard and you can draft a stud big (have a shot in 2010 and 2011) having a player like Green or Smith next to Jennings/PF/Bogut would be a hell of a start to building your team.

We'll probably sign Desmond Mason.

Hmm....interesting MD. Those are two very good and very plausible reasons along with this one...

The Bucks could be clearing out salary in preparation for the impending 2011 NBA lockout, and new collective bargaining agreement. There could very well be a long NBA strike on the horizon...and new salary structure?

Even Brandon Jennings a rookie was said to have sense enough to be saving his money up to prepare for that eventuality, while other stars are going broke and filing for bankruptcy.

Makes you wonder why LeBron,, Kobe, and Wade all signed 3 year deals that all end right before the lockout year? They had to know, of their financial planners (agents0 most certainly did.

I like your two ideas, but I will go with mine. Kohl is not selling before the lockout. I bet he wants to see if there were be any revenue sharing and how that will play out before he sales the team...this time.

This is one reason why I don't care about bringing in a Bosh, a McGrady, or a A. Stoudamire for one year or two before the strike... Or even Stephen Jackson. Lets have some fun before the CBA strike comes.

It will be a differenet economic cilmate after 2011 for everyone anyways. What difference does the next two years make?
“These guys are competitors,” Hammond said of the Bucks players...“When they step on the floor, they play to win and expect to win..." ~Um, Ok...We'll see.

I don't know for 2011, but in 2010 we could lure LeBron, given his words:

"I've thought about playing everywhere,” James said prior to Thursday’s loss against Chicago. “At one point in my life, I've thought about playing every team in the NBA."

nice post. that 3rd reason sounds pretty right. and yeah, doubt anything big happens before the potential lockout year.

Those ideas aren't mutually exclusive. If a new owner buys the team, he or she will still want to have a roster assembled, and will likely use the cap space to sign somebody. Either way, we can speculate on which players will be on the market.

But a salary absorbing trade is probably more realistic than a big max signing.

If you think JR Smith and Jeff Green are below average... Then how many guys in the league are above average or better? 40?
Believe in Brandon.
