Gibson will be the new Duhon

Postby DASMACKDOWN on Fri Nov 06, 2009 9:03 am

Now let me be the first to say, this isnt meant to be a negative thread especially coming off a big victory. But people need to keep an eye on this as the season progresses.

Gibson will potentially be the new Duhon.

I think so many Tyrus detractors are somewhat blind to it because they think they are seeing Taj over Tyrus here. Which probably makes them happy.

But what people arent noticing is that its really Taj over Noah too.

Say what you want about Tyrus (Gone next year or whatever) Thats fine. Those arguments can be valid.

But under no circumstances do I want to see Taj getting similar minutes to Noah. Which will happen if the team decides to lower Tyrus's minutes.

Its been 5 games but what is wrong with this picture

Taj 6.4pts 5rebs .6blks 22mins

Noah 9.4pts 10rebs 2blks 28.4mins
Tyrus 8.3pts 5.3rebs 1.8blks 21 mins

Taj is considerably worse in basically every catagory of either player.

But thats nothing..

Here is the shockng part.

Taj Gibson played 34 mins last night.

Ok sit on that for a second... 34 Minutes...

Now check this,

Only Rose, Salmons and Deng have ever played more 34 or more mins.

Rose has only hit that mark once.

Noah and Miller have only played a 30 min game once and thats their highest total.
Tyrus no more than 26.

See where this is going?

You may not see it clearly now but you can definitely see that Gibson can easily be the next Duhon here.

A player who is solid, doesnt make many mistakes but is very limited. Who will end up being their coaches favorite and ultimately be disliked by the fans.

Not because the player sucks, but because the coach plays them too long and over better players.

I liked Duhon. But I absolutely hated the way he was used by Skiles. Especially over BG.

I just hope we dont have to go through this all over again

That's funny. So many Tyrus detractors have stated several times that Tyrus should be given priority over Gibson. Myself included. So that's not true at all. Maybe there are a select few, but that hardly paints an accurate picture.

Gibson is a nice addition, but come on. He doesn't have the talent Tyrus has. In fact, it's not even close.

As for the rest of your post; I agree.

You may very well be on to something here.. but IMHO not the best thread to bring up at this moment.

Bulls 86
CAVS 85

However we got it done, it got done. I'll even give a small helping of Kudos to Vinny for the rotation.

In all fairness to smack, he did say that at the very beginning of his post.

last night Gibson was more deserving of his minutes than Thomas. But there is no way he should be playing over Noah. If you want Miller in for the pick and roll then fine, but Noah is a much better all around player than Gibby.

Yea, it's not good that Gibson is seeing more minutes than Noah. VDN needs to to realize Noah is far and away our best defensive and rebounding big.

That said, it was a good win, over a shaky cavs team or what, it was still a win on the road over a team that should win 50+ easily.

DASMACKDOWN: his name is Gibson (just like the old pictire for St Louis Cardinals)

You consistently write "Gipson" so I assume you think that's his name, but it isnt

I think you are missing the point of what I was saying.
This game could have EASILY been a loss.

But forget the game. I dont care if it was against a Clippers that have 4 healthy players.
Im looking at it this from a perspective of after the smoke cleared (win or a loss)

We saw that Taj played 34 mins.
Noah played 27 mins
and Miller played 22 mins

If you cant see what I am saying then you missed it.

Gibson just looks ok out there. Noah looks like a beast to me. Noah should be pushing 36 min

They said on the radio that the coaches felt he wasn't where he needed to be with his defense.

This is a very good thread. I am wondering why Gibson is a crunch time performer over Noah and Hinrich. I am not sure. I bithed about Tyrus not playing at in the 4th against Miami, and I am going to bitch about Taj taking 12 shots, which was 1 less than Salmons. Taj has place on the team, but not over Tyrus and definitely not over MIller and Noah.

Interesting comparison. It may be too early to say it's valid, but there are similarities.

As I said in the Cavs postgame thread, I too would love to hear VDN answer the "Why Gibson over Noah" question. If it's not a conditioning issue, I don't get it.

We may be calling out Skiles and VDN on this thread, but it's not all that uncommon for coaches at every level to have less-gifted players on whom they feel they can rely and who play those reliable players over more crowd-pleasing players on their rosters. Hell, I know I did it when I coached. Generally, it has something to do with the underlying belief that basketball is a team game and some players just get this better than others. I can't speak for others, but I never did it out of personal liking or disliking...I was just trying to win.
