OT: Time to bring your World Cup support

Postby AdamTheGreek on Fri Nov 06, 2009 12:10 pm

If you didn't know, Orlando is in the final 27 cities that will be sorted through when to comes to the U.S.' strong bid for the 2018 or 2022 World Cup.

I went to two World Cup matches at the Citrus Bowl in '94 (I was 6 but still remember everything) including the Round of 16 match between the Dutch and Irish.

If you're interested to grow the support in bringing the World Cup back, here's the petition:
http://www.gousabid.com/city/local/ORLA ... e=facebook
Now the site can obviously monitor just from the zip codes where the Florida support is coming from, so the more the merrier as we try to get involved once more.

would the weather not be dangerous for 90+ minutes of soccer in orlando during that time? I remember hearing that players almost died in Texas back in 94, and I'm pretty sure that though the sun may not be as strong, the humidity could be dangerous for soccer... unless it's not worse than Atlanta, which had a relatively successful hosting of olympic soccer

Well Olympics is in August. World Cup is in June and July, big difference.

Screw the heat, they're soccer players they should be used to it.

I'm in.

I love the World Cup.

This would be friggin HUGE for us as a city... and I'd love to see the WC. I just hope we could muster up enough support here. I think we ave a legitimate shot considering that soccer is juuuuuuust about to start taking hold in the states... see seattle sounders FC.
