Yep; we're playing a very tough stretch to start the season.
Also, KG, our emotional leader and energizer bunny, is still playing himself into shape. He was winded 3 minutes into the game tonight.
That said, for the first time in the new Big 3 era this team has looked OLD the past two games. Maybe it's the stretch of games, but our energy was terrible in the first half tonight (except for a brief spurt to end the 2nd quarter). And maybe we've become OLD. That's the funny thing with age, one day you wake up and you're old.
What's worse, we're leaning on the 3 ball even when it's clear that we're tired and that we have the advantage inside. Sure, we have knock down shooters, but we shouldn't look for 3 at the expense of easier 2s. We should always look inside first, and then shoot 3s as the countermove if the inside gets shut down.
We're playing a soft brand of offense right now; nobody's getting to the line (KG was 13-20 with ZERO free throws), and it's all jumpers; on top of that we have old legs. I'd like to see us lean on Rondo and Perk on the nights when we're tired, using Rondo as the bridge to the 2nd unit, and being super conscious of getting Perk touches in the post. Rondo COULD have scored 30 tonight, and while it's his job to be the facilitator, he needs (and more specifically Doc needs) to realize that some nights we need Rondo to score first and make the defense stop THAT; and then facilitate once his scoring has garnered all the defensive attention.
