Who to start? Calderon or Jarrett Jack

Postby mrcapslock on Sat Nov 07, 2009 2:45 am

Who would you start for Toronto Raptors? Calderon or Jarrett Jack.

My vote goes to Jarrett Jack. We need Calderon off the bench to put some energy for offense while Jarrett Jack's tough defense and quicker body could tire out opposing starting PG.

edit: please say why you would start each person. This isn't really about whose better, but what is strategically better for raps.

I don't think it really matters, but probably Jose because Jack is a much better 'energy' guy, while Jose (when he's playing well anyway) can get our offence into gear early in the game. I still think they should split the minutes pretty evenly, unless one of them has a hot hand like Jose today. Jack should be capable of impact games as well, judging by the way the way he played with the Pacers.

edit: i didnt vote because who cares

Not a good time to post this, Calderon was superb tonight against the best point guard in the game.

This is like the millionth time this has been discussed. So instead of choosing Jose or Jarrett I went with Marcus Banks. Seriously Calderon is the starter, it also looks like after this game that he's finally shaken of the rust of not play basketball for 5 months. Even Jack wasn't that great in the beginning and is now starting to look comfortable. Let's just be happy that we have two great point guards on our team guys.

 Calderon obviously.

It's not like Jack has earned a chance at starting. He's looked every bit as bad as Jose defensively, and doesn't bring anything close to what Jose brings offensively.

What would you guys think about calderon at SG in some games where the opponent don't have a big SG like Kobe. That way, we can get a playmaker in 3 positions. I think we can all agree that demar sucks now and he's still a project.

Seriously? What is with these threads? Antoine Wright should start, lets start Marcus Banks, Rasho should start. The Raptors are going to have their problems throughout the season, but this team has a great mix of players. The starting line-up is fine, and as long as Bosh re-signs the top six players will have a lot of time to develop together. I understand that after poor performances people around here go crazy, but Jose just had a very solid game. The coaching staff always has the option of playing Jose less minutes if he is really sucking.

I think we have to assumeat this point that the chances of bosh staying is actually pretty low. We should start perhaps trading bosh if an equal value trade comes along to ensure raptors future.

It seems like Caldy is getting his shots back and if this indicates him getting back in his old form, then I'd gladly say Caldy must start over Jack in every game for sure.

In fairness to the OP. Jose was the best backup point guard in the league when he was backing up TJ. He came into the games with a ton of energy. But as a starter, its hard to have that mentality due to stamina. From a "strategic" standpoint. I agree with him. The bench has better defernders who would cover him a little better in comparison to lets say Bosh and Andrea. And Turk handles the ball a good chunk of the time. BUT reality changes that when u factor in egos, player perferances, contracts etc.

well a player like odom or terry was great off the bench. But I can see that as calderon gets fame, his ego also goes up.
