Did anyone catch this---during Cavs game

Postby Knicksick on Sat Nov 07, 2009 4:49 am

I have international league pass and during the timeouts there wasn't any commercials during the Knick-Cav game so I could listen to what Jeff Van Gundy, Mark Jackson etc. were saying all night long. I don't know if it really was during a timeout or if they said it during a game sequence but since no one mentioned it I thought maybe you guys didn't catch it: Jackson was saying that he talked to Walsh prior to the game about 2010 and what Walsh was thinking about possibly adding one max free agent. Jackson said " Walsh told me that he isn't looking at one max FA but is definitely gonna want to add two max FA. " Again it really sounded like Walsh is very confident he can achieve that, not like someone waiting for a miracle. I'd really like to know what the leeway is/was that Walsh talke about during the summer.

Other than that JVG was talking about some random stuff during timeouts(hair cut of one guy etc.) while Jackson seemed to be pretty shocked by the Knicks first half performance and wondered why they'd come out this bad.

well even if the cap drops, if we drop jeffries we'll only be a million or two away from a second max slot. So it really isn't that improbable to think we'll able to afford two max's next summer.

Yeah but isn't the bottom line that we'd need to drop Jeffries AND Curry in order to ba able to really sign TWO max FAs. Or do you mean that a guy like Amar'e or Bosh would settle for 15mill. a year?

Yeah I definitely heard it last night. I was thinking "do they know this is going out?"

I thought they were insulting the kids taking shots during the quarter and half breaks, but I couldn't see the court properly so I wasn't sure. Then I realised they were talkin' bout the Knicks not having any real starters... Funny though.

No way I'm paying Amare close to that much money. Guy is an injury waiting to happen.

We can definately get 2 max free agents because we'll get them both via sign and trades.

If James said he is leaving the Cavs regardless, it is in the best interest of the Cavs to get something back instead of letting him walk for nothing. We can offer a trade exemption and Chandler which is better than nothing. This actually would be helpful too because it clears another $3 million off the cap and the logjam.

Then if Bosh says the same, although we wouldn't be able to sign him outright, no organization is stupid enough to hold players hostages so they can work something out with us as well. Lee and Jeffries and $3 million for Bosh would work.

Then we can go shopping Eddy's expiring for a longer term deal for a player or more that have long term deals, similar to the Jefferson trade. We wouldn't get all stars back but who needs more all stars if you can get LBJ and Bosh.

So, there are many ways to get this done if the players decide to come here, their current teams are not going to ruin relations by standing in their way.

We've been through this before, there's no way cleveland management can turn to their fan base and say we helped lebron leave by facilitating a S&T. Ferry would be hanged or fired on the spot.

 at Cleveland doing Lebron any favors for WILSON CHANDLER.

 at Toronto doing Bosh any favors for DAVID LEE.

You cant give teams our spare parts and expect them to bend over backwards. Toronto would want Gallo and Cleveland would want Hill and Chandler.

My dad has a phrase he likes which translates to "wanting isn't bad for you" point is they can want whatever, they could want gallo, hill, chandler and 2 picks for bosh or lebron, but if we have the cap room to sign them outright and the players want to come here then it doesn't matter what cleveland wants.

I still don't see how they're helping us out. If lebron wants to be a knick he's going to be a knick whether we S&T for him or just sign him, if anything a S&T helps them at least get some sort of talent back.

So if you were the Cavs GM you would rather let him walk and get nothing for the best player in the world than getting a young prospect from a team? Really? Why exactly would that be? I am shocked anyone would suggest this, especially after you have been one of the one saying how horrific it would be for the Knicks to lose Lee for nothing in free agency next offseason. Please enlighten me.

I think that is the only way we get James.

If we get another free agent like Amare and Bosh, then we would be legit contenders.

Of course it would depend on the players around them.

In a way not having our first rounder this year is a plus because we dont have to take all that money off the cap.(its allso a curse so dont flame me):D

If I was Walsh I would look into buying 3- 4 second rounders to get some cheap non-guarenteed help over here.
All you Laker and Celtic fans may be proud with all your championships you won but us New York fans have a little team we like to call the Yankees that have "almost"doubled you in championships.

with gallinari coming into his own neither bosh nor stoudemire are necessary. besides neither bosh nor stoudemire would be willing to take a pay cut to play alongside james. we need a solid jumpshooting 2 guard more than those guys-- neither of whom are good defenders. i wouldn't think having gallinari in the backcourt at the 2 would be out of the question though.
