Helpful Tips
Base Year Compensation (BYC) players are often difficult to trade for one simple reason; their outgoing trade value is either 50% of their incoming trade value OR it is the value of their previous season's salary, whichever is higher. This means that when trading a BYC player the original team must take back twice the salary (the player's full contractual value) than is credited as being outgoing for the player, all while adhering to the usual 15% plus $100k trade rule which governs teams which are over the cap.

If a player signs a contract using 'Bird Rights' in which the player received a 20%+ raise over the previous season, he is considered BYC, and will remain so for a full 12 months unless an intervening event (such as a completed trade) takes place first.
