Player: Season FIC (FIC Per 40 Minutes)
1. Al Horford: 324 (12.8)
Horford has easily been the best rebounder of this rookie class with his 18.4 rebound rate.
2. Kevin Durant: 308 (10.3)
Durant is shooting just under 40% from the field and 19% from behind the arc over his past nine games. His ability to make shots will one day catch up with his ability to create/take shots. There are, of course, plenty of indicators that he will be a very good player, if not an All-Star, but his skills as a rebounder have not carried across to the NBA game and is a serious cause for concern.
3. Yi Jianlian: 284 (10.7)
Yi is shooting just 35% from the field in January, down from his impressive 50% in December when he was the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month.
4. Jamario Moon: 280 (11.5)
Moon is far from a rookie in the traditional sense, but he has made a substantial contribution to the Raptors by giving them an athletic shotblocking wing.
5. Sean Williams: 235 (14.0)
Williams remains one of the more consistent rookies in the NBA, partly because he is only asked to do things at which he is good: shotblocking and rebounding. While not as skilled of a rebounder as Horford, Williams has a 15.1 rebounding rate nevertheless. One area in which he must improve is his block/foul ratio.
6. Luis Scola: 235 (12.3)
Like Moon, Scola isn’t a typical rookie as he already has a storied international career. Over the past ten games, Scola has a per 40 FIC of 14.1 as he continues to make a case to Rick Adelman for more floor time.
7. Juan Carlos Navarro: 197 (9.4)
Navarro has seen his playing time reduced with the return of Mike Conley in the Grizzlies’ crowded backcourt. His 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio over the past ten games needs to be improved.
8. Jeff Green: 195 (8.5)
Green has a 6.1 per 40 FIC over his past 10 games which, of course, is down from his season average. A potential FIC star in the future, he needs to continue his development as a rebounder and also learn to take better care of the ball. He averages 2 turnovers per game for the season and 2.6 over his past 10.
9. Corey Brewer: 136 (6.6)
Brewer is shooting an atrocious 36% from the field this season, but has been just under 50% over his past 10 games. He clearly will be an accomplished defender in this league but still has a way to go to develop as a rebounder and scorer, much of which will come when he fills out his frame.
10. Jason Smith: 130 (8.6)
Smith continues to improve despite his limited playing time showing himself to be the athletic rebounder he was expected to become.
11. Joakim Noah: 120 (14.5)
Noah clearly has the best per 40 FIC, but since his playing time has been so limited, it is difficult to determine what exactly the Bulls have in him. He hasn’t rebounded as efficiently as several other rookie big men, and he’s shooting just 44% from the floor.
12. Daequan Cook: 111 (7.5)
Cook continues to see a tremendous amount of playing time (more than what he saw in Columbus) on the lowly Heat, but he has a 5.3 FIC per 40 over his past 10 games.
13. Thaddeus Young: 198 (11.1)
Young has been playing well of late. Shooting well from the floor and also rebounding efficiently, he decidedly appears ahead of expected.
14. Jared Dudley: 101 (10.9)
Dudley is the kind of player that has played well early on, but you wonder if it is because he’s on a bad team and is an older rookie and that this is the same Dudley we’ll see several years on.
15. Glen Davis: 99 (11.6)
Davis continues to be productive when he sees floor time on an excellent Celtics’ team.
16. Al Thornton: 96 (6.6)
Thornton turned 24 this month, and I’m not sure if someone that old who has struggled as much as he has can recover and become a productive NBA player.
17. Mike Conley: 94 (12.2)
Conley is shooting a better than expected 43% from the field and shows some promise as he is 30% from 3-point territory.
18. Arron Afflalo: 89 (8.6)
Afflalo has been a handy player for Flip Saunders to use near the bottom of his rotation, but he should only be filling as many 3-point shots as Ben Wallace left behind for him.
19. Nick Young: 63 (5.4)
Young has seen substantial minutes with the Wizards but has been outright awful. Over the past 10 games, Young has a per 40 FIC of 2.6.
20. Aaron Gray: 63 (10.8)
Gray had a breakout game in December against the Lakers and followed it up with impressive play again at Washington and Boston. He hasn’t played in 20 or more minutes since, but he continues to give the Bulls a reliable young option at center.
Honorable Mention- Carl Landry: 29.6 (27.1) |
