This week’s RealGM Team Rankings features two new teams cracking the Top Five while the Detroit Pistons are falling for the first time in months. The biggest rise in the rankings this week goes to the streaking Houston Rockets (up from No. 13 to No. 5) while the biggest drop in the big picture of the Team Rankings belongs to the Dallas Mavericks (No. 7 to No. 12), who dropped five spots this week.

The format is simple. The rankings reflect each team’s current ranking, along with their ranking from the last week (LW), and their current win-loss record.

1. (1) San Antonio Spurs 43-19

After winning 9 of their past 10 road games, the Spurs have drifted back to Earth with back-to-back road losses in Denver and Phoenix.

2. (2) L.A. Lakers 44-19

The Lake Show was two Beno Udrih free throws away from regaining the top spot from San Antonio, but the Lakers can't afford to lose home games to the Kings.

3. (4) Boston Celtics 49-12

Boston disposed of the Pistons with little difficulty last Wednesday, making them officially the team to beat in the East.

4. (6) Utah Jazz 42-22

The Jazz are just a disgusting 28-3 at home this season but more importantly looked very strong in a big road win in Phoenix.

5. (13) Houston Rockets 42-20

After receiving stacks of angered emails from the lovely fans of Houston, I can't help but ignore their 18-game winning streak any longer.

6. (3) Detroit Pistons 46-17

A big loss in Boston, and barely squeaking out wins last week over the Sonics, Knicks, and Bulls give Piston fans reason to worry with the playoffs coming up.

7. (5) New Orleans Hornets 42-20

This is a big week for the Hornets with home games against the Spurs and Lakers followed by a Sunday trip to Detroit.

8. (8) Phoenix Suns 41-22

Phoenix proved that their addition of Shaq helps them match up better with their nemesis San Antonio Spurs , but will it be enough to get them to the postseason?

9. (9) Golden State Warriors 39-23

Golden State gets a much deserved 3 days off after capturing 4 wins in 5 games over the past 7 days.

10. (10) Cleveland Cavaliers 36-27

This Cavs' team will be scary good once it gets Big Z back in the middle and Sasha Pavlovic and Daniel Gibson back on the wing.

11. (12) Philadelphia 76ers 30-33

The Sixers are on an 11-3 clip over their past 14. They will learn a lot about themselves after this week when they take on the Celtics, Pistons, and Spurs.

12. (7) Dallas Mavericks 40-23

The Mavs are not proving they can hang with the top dogs in the West, losing to the Lakers, Jazz, and Rockets last week.

13. (11) Orlando Magic 40-24

Where would the Magic be without Hedo Turkoglu's dream season (19.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists per game)?

14. (14) Denver Nuggets 37-25

The Nuggets always seem to be getting huge wins (vs. Phoenix and San Antonio last week) but never seem to move up in the standings.

15. (16) Toronto Raptors 34-28

It's obvious the Raptors need Chris Bosh to be successful… but are they better off with or without T.J. Ford?

16. (15) Portland Trail Blazers 33-30

This Blazers' team is clearly built for tomorrow especially after they needed an overtime period just to beat the Knicks with Wilson Chandler and Malik Rose in the starting five.

17. (19) Sacramento Kings 28-35

After getting a huge win over the Lakers on Sunday, the Kings have only 1 home game (vs. Portland) over the next 5 days.

18. (17) Washington Wizards 30-32

The Wizards have been hit hardest with injuries over the past couple of years especially after watching DeShawn Stevenson join Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler in street clothes.

19. (18) Atlanta Hawks 26-36

Thank goodness for the Miami Heat . The Hawks were reeling with a 4-game losing streak before the dreadful Heat came to Hotlanta.

20. (20) Chicago Bulls 25-38

With the Bulls desperately trying to make a playoff push, they unfortunately will have to face the boiling hot Jazz and Sixers this week.

21. (27) Charlotte Bobcats 24-39

Wow, what has gotten into the Charlotte Bobcats lately? Five straight wins (4 over current playoff teams) and it's starting to look like they have no interest in Mike Beasley or Derrick Rose.

22. (21) Indiana Pacers 24-39

Travis Diener has done well the past week as the stopgap at the point, averaging 10.6 points and 6.0 assists over his past 5 games.

23. (25) Milwaukee Bucks 23-40

I can foresee the Bucks making it interesting down the stretch. They are only 3.5 games out of the 8th spot with 20 games to go.

24. (23) L.A. Clippers 20-41

Dan Dickau has been effective since the buyout of Sam Cassell. He has averaged 11 points and 4 assists over the past 3 games.

25. (22) New Jersey Nets 26-37

The Nets have been awful since the Jason Kidd trade, losers of the past 5 games and plummeting towards the lottery.

26. (26) Seattle Supersonics 16-47

The Sonics have lost 7 of 8, but are looking forward to getting the Wolves at home this Friday.

27. (24) New York Knicks 18-45

Knicks' fans are dreaming of Derrick Rose in the Garden but have to be excited about Wilson Chandler too (7.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in his past 4 games).

28. (28) Minnesota Timberwolves 14-48

The Wolves captured their first back-to-back wins in over a month after their victories against the Kings and Clippers last weekend.

29. (30) Memphis Grizzlies 15-47

The Grizzlies have only 2 wins in their past 18 games. They are excited for the off-season.

30. (29) Miami Heat 11-50

Shawn Marion has to be hating life now that Dwyane Wade is officially done for the season.
