It’s just one week until the 2008 NBA Draft Lottery, where the hopes and dreams of fourteen franchises will be both granted and denied. Stay tuned because I may be logging a running blog live from Secaucus just seven days from now.

Steve Kerr claims that the Suns will not do a complete 180 next season even though Mike D’Antoni is coaching New York. I’d like to see Paul Silas in Phoenix. He’s a respected, veteran presence and is more than capable of keeping the Suns in contention while maintaining an up-tempo offense.

Several members of the Bulls were filling John Paxson’s cell phone with text messages asking the general manager to bring D’Antoni on as the team’s new head coach. We all know how that went. I hope this isn’t another bad omen for Chicago this season.

Rashard Lewis: Proving His Worth When It Counts Most, by Alex Kennedy.

Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett headlined the NBA’s All-Defensive Team announcements on Monday, along with Marcus Camby, Bruce Bowen, and Tim Duncan. I would have liked to have seen Dwight Howard on the First Team and Duncan on the Second, but I digress.

Bryant says that he expects to play against the Jazz in Game Five despite his tight lower back. The series shifts to Los Angeles on Wednesday with all the momentum on the line as this has quickly become a three-game affair. The Lakers aren’t a one-man team anymore, but they certainly are much better with ‘The Black Mamba’ in uniform.

This is quite the interesting story. Apparently the bar staff at the Liberty Hotel in Cambridge, where the Hawks were staying prior to Game Seven in Boston, were instructed to serve anyone affiliated with the team ‘double’ shots. Sounds a little like the leprechauns that used to hang above the baskets at the old Boston Garden.

The Knicks are very deadset on having cap room when LeBron James hits the market in a few summers. I’d imagine that New York will really need to turn things around in order to land LBJ. I’d put money on him joining Jay Z with the Nets before he joins the crew at Madison Square Garden.

I hate to continue filling the Scoop with D’Antoni news, but he is going to fulfill his commitment with Team USA this summer at the Beijing Olympics. It’s not what you can do for your new team, but what you can do for your country.

Rich Harden struggled in his debut off the disabled list against the Rangers on Sunday night. He surrendered five earned runs in less than four innings of work and didn’t figure in the decision as Sidney Ponson of Texas had difficulty getting outs, as well. I think Harden’s line would have looked much better if his command was tighter, something that will hopefully come with time.

A-Rod: I Want To Play Shortstop Or Else, by Buster Gunning.

Sunday’s weather ruined more than Mother’s Day, as my fantasy lineup took a huge hit with both Andy Pettitte and Carlos Zambrano missing their starts because of the wind and rain. New York’s game against Detroit was postponed while Lou Pinella opted to hold Carlos out of his scheduled start because of the poor conditions. Good thing The Drew Crew still eked out a three-point victory in my roto league.

Eric Gagne is officially out as the closer of the Brewers, thanks to his monumental struggles on the mound this season. You can now officially cut him in your fantasy league and don’t even think about picking him up off waivers if someone else releases him.

An Uphill Climb For Howard, by Kyle Connor.

The entire Ravens roster got in a little scuffle during camp drills over the weekend, exciting new coach John Harbaugh in the process. Baltimore doesn’t have the most clear-cut position battles after their dismal 2007 season, so showing some fire isn’t exactly a bad thing as Harbaugh eyes his starting rosters.

Review this: The Early Favorites For The Conn Smythe Trophy, by Christopher Reina. You might be able to slide that trio of Flyers down the list unless they pick it up soon.

Nicklas Lidstrom believes that this Red Wings’ team could be the best squad he’s ever played on in Detroit. That’s saying something, considering the three Stanley Cups that the defenseman has hoisted in his fifteen seasons in the Motor City.
