I’d like to congratulate the Shelton, Connecticut Little League team for their strong showing in Williamsport at the Little League World Series. They weren’t able to move on after the first round of pool play, but they did the city proud! Go, Little Gaels!

After appearing in the Olympics for Germany, Dirk Nowitzki says that his main goal is to win an NBA title. I’d imagine that this was his main goal all along, but one never knows.

The Sixers have reportedly offered free agent center Theo Ratliff a contract worth the veteran’s minimum. Philadelphia looks like the dark horse in the East this season, and the addition of a defender like Ratliff could help their chances.

Mike Krzyzewski will not return to coach Team USA after the Beijing Olympics, according to manager director Jerry Colangelo. What about another college legend like Jim Boeheim or Jim Calhoun?

Ben Gordon may think that he’s done in the Windy City, but that doesn’t mean the Heat are a likely destination. A certain player named Dwyane Wade is their starting two-guard, and a sign-and-trade might cost Miami someone like Shawn Marion.

The Timberwolves unveiled new uniforms on Monday, and they look pretty snazzy if you ask me. It’s not going to help them on the court, but it might help them earn some dough at the souvenir stands.

Oklahoma City is waiting to announce their recent acquisitions of Desmond Mason, Kyle Weaver, and Joe Smith until they have settled on a name and have jerseys for the players to hold up at a press conference. I suppose they are hoping for a “Thunderous” applause.

The United States will enter the medal round undefeated in Beijing this Wednesday, after knocking off Germany by 49 on Monday. The U.S. will battle Australia, who recently gave them their closest battle.

The Marlins are unlikely to give second baseman Dan Uggla a long-term deal due to his second-half struggles. He hasn’t been hitting enough home runs (26) to make up for his abundance of strikeouts (129).

Curt Schilling hinted towards retirement in his most recent blog, citing a lack of drive to begin working towards a return. I think Boston will be just fine without him, as will I.

Aaron Harang admitted on Sunday that he hasn’t been having fun on the mound recently, a likely result of the Reds’ poor record and a pair of rough outings. Only five teams have fewer wins in the Majors than Cincinnati this season.

Jim Leyland says that he will not bail on the struggling Tigers this season despite the more than ten games they stand out of first place. Bobby Petrino, you reading this?

The Patriots could look to trade backup quarterback Matt Cassel because they have been impressed by Matt Gutierrez and invested a third-rounder on Kevin O’Connell this April. Someone could use him, and I’m sure New England will swing a favorable deal.

Kyle Orton has been named the starting quarterback of the Bears, which means much-criticized QB Rex Grossman has been sent to the bench. I’d imagine it’s highly likely that Grossman could end up the starter by the time pumpkins are in season.

The NFL could extend its regular season to seventeen or eighteen games, according to comments made by New England owner Robert Kraft. I suggest the league cuts the preseason schedule down to two games while increasing the schedule to eighteen weeks and giving teams two weeks off.

The Buccaneers are hoping to get a draft pick in return for Chris Simms if they are able to find a suitor for the former starting QB. I’d take Simms over Cassel of New England, but promise might weigh out over experience in this case.

Arizona could look to trade wide receiver Anquan Boldin next offseason, as they aren’t expected to give him the new contract he wants (something close to what Larry Fitzgerald got). Boldin deserves such a deal, but his injury history will probably keep him from getting it.

New York’s Mike Comrie is rumored to be engaged to pop star Hilary Duff, quite the catch for the puckhead. Why is it that hockey players always seem to get the hottest girls?

And to think, he could have run faster…
