The current top-five players in the NBA according to RealGM's FIC, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh, were all on Team USA's 2008 Gold Medal team. How does the rest of the NBA rank?
Monta Ellis is still at least a full month away from his return to the court for the Warriors, but he recently called RealGM with the full story behind his ankle injury.
Just three installments remain in the series, with this chapter housing names like Michael Jordan, Kevin McHale, and Carmelo Anthony. It was incredibly hard to leave off a number of players, and I’m sure after reading you’ll see exactly whom I decided skip over this time around.
Born within six months of each other in opposite corners of the world, two seven footers who are finalists for the Basketball Hall of Fame this fall are two of the best ever to play the center position.

Goran Dragicmay not sign a contract with the Suns until September, and it’s rumored they will give him first-round money despite his status as a second-round selection. Not too bad for Mr. Dragic.
Yao Ming is furious after being benched during China’s loss to Greece on Monday, with the country close to its highest-ever Olympic finish. I’m happy to see such fire from Yao, but China was probably right to rest him for the medal round.
Commissioner David Stern would like to have a presence in both China and India in the not-so-distant future. China has already embraced the league, thanks in large part to Yao Ming, but India might be a tougher sell. Of course, I have no idea how much they welcome NBA ball.
Believe it or not, Carlos Quentin almost began the season in the minors for the White Sox. Almost thankfully, Jerry Owens suffered an injury to cement a spot for Quentin on the team’s Major League roster. All Quentin has done is challenge for the AL’s MVP award.
C.C. Sabathia is 8-0 through his first eight starts with the Brewers, an amazing mark that could earn him the National League Cy Young award. Perhaps more importantly, Milwaukee is now leading the Wild Card race by a few games.
The Dolphins claim that there is no chance they will trade Ronnie Brown despite speculation started on ESPN. The rumors started when team officials hinted that Ricky Williams has looked obviously better than Brown this month.
The Jets appear to be altering their playbook slightly for Brett Favre, with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer incorporating some Green Bay concepts into New York’s scheme. I suppose that’s the ultimate complement, but what about the dozens of guys that were used to the book?
LaDainian Tomlinson claims that the Chargers have had a great camp this month. That’s a good thing, especially with a number of San Diego’s key skill players coming off injuries at the end of last season. They should be able to ease into the 2008 season with the Panthers, Raiders, and Dolphins among their first five opponents.
Peyton Manning’s newest goal is to be back on the field for the Colts when they open the season against the Bears in early September. Indianapolis needs Manning to be on the field in order to win, and fans must be on the edge of their seats with his status seemingly in doubt.
