By Christopher Reina

Certainly by now most of you are already familiar with my Floor Impact Counter and Reina Value. (Please click here to familiarize yourself with the systems.)

I also use the FIC to calculate team totals, both by game and for the season.

In order to determine my team rankings, I have calculated the difference between a team's own FIC per game and their opponents' FIC for the entire season.

Team: 08-09 FIC Differential

1. Cleveland Cavaliers : 27.7

The Cavaliers are third in field goal percentage and second in field goal percentage allowed.

2. Boston Celtics : 23.3

The Celtics have had 22 player technical fouls while Doc Rivers has five, which puts the club as the leaders in NBA this season.

3. L.A. Lakers : 16.3

If Jordan Farmar misses significant time, the Lakers will need to address their lack of depth at point guard.

4. Utah Jazz : 12.9

Between Carlos Boozer's contract comments and quad injury, this has been a tough stretch for the Jazz although they had two quality wins at New Jersey and Detroit before losing to Derrick Rose and the Bulls on Saturday.

5. Portland TrailBlazers: 11.6

The Blazers followed up a week with three straight losses to the Magic, Jazz, and Clippers by defeating the Kings and Suns at home last week. The win against Phoenix included 52 points by Brandon Roy, who has averaged 36.4 over his previous five games.

6. Orlando Magic : 10.7

Only the Celtics, Lakers, and Cavaliers have a better record than the Magic, and Jameer Nelson has played brilliantly in December, averaging 20.9 points on 56.1% shooting, along with 5.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game.

7. New Orleans Hornets : 10.2

The Hornets continue to win, going 7-1 in December despite getting less than spectacular play from Tyson Chandler.

8. Denver Nuggets : 7.7

The Nuggets had gone 16-5 since acquiring Chauncey Billups until they started their current three-game losing streak.

9. Dallas Mavericks : 6.9

The Mavericks are fourth in the Southwest Division but trail first place New Orleans by just 2.5 games.

10. Houston Rockets : 5.8

After blowing a big lead in Minnesota and narrowly escaping with a 105-102 win, Shane Battier wisely said that the best teams in the NBA like the Celtics, Lakers, and Cavs would not find themselves in that situation, and the Rockets need to have the similar mentality if they aim to compete with the best.

11. Atlanta Hawks : 5.4

Mike Bibby's shooting efficiency has slipped a little bit in December, but he has continued to have a resurgent season.

12. San Antonio Spurs : 4.4

It took the Spurs about five minutes to sign Malik Hairston after he was named the D-League Player of the Week.

13. Detroit Pistons : 2.1

Detroit is one game under .500 since Allen Iverson became a member of their starting lineup. They are eight games behind the Cavaliers in the Central Division.

14. Phoenix Suns : 1.6

Amare Stoudemire has scored at least 20 points in 10 consecutive games.

15. Miami Heat : 0.7

Dwyane Wade scored 35 points on Friday to knock off the Lakers by two and then scored 43 at New Jersey on Saturday for a three-point road win. The Heat are 6-1 in games decided by five or fewer points.

16. Philadelphia 76ers : -2.1

The Sixers are 2-2 without Elton Brand and 10-13 with him on the floor. He also doesn't lead the team in any major statistical category.

17. Milwaukee Bucks : -2.2

Speaking of comparing a team's record with or without a single player, the Bucks are 8-7 with Michael Redd and 4-9 without him.

18. Indiana Pacers : -3.9

Two of the Pacers' ten wins have come against New Jersey while they were missing Devin Harris.

19. Chicago Bulls : -5.7

The Bulls are playing extremely small and desperately need to make a trade to improve their frontcourt.

20. New Jersey Nets : -6.6

Devin Harris had 41 points on Friday against his former team in the Nets' 121-97 victory over Dallas.

21. Toronto Raptors : -7.2

The Raptors lead the NBA in keeping opponents off the free throw line but are in the bottom 10 in field goal percentage allowed.

22. Charlotte Bobcats : -7.3

After Jamal Crawford scored 50 points on the Bobcats, Gerald Wallace said, "Basically you’ve got a guy out there with his confidence as high as the sky, and he’s only playing one end. He’s only playing offense, so what can you say?"

23. Memphis Grizzlies : -10.7

The Grizzlies lost to the Hornets and Bobcats last week after winning five of six.

24. L.A. Clippers : -11.0

The Clippers are 4-2 when Zach Randolph scores at least 27 points.

25. Golden State Warriors : -12.0

Jamal Crawford's teams are 5-1 when he scores 40 or more points in a game over his career.

26. New York Knicks : -13.1

I read last week in one of Frank Isola's pieces that he sees the Knicks has a definite six, seven, or eight seed in the Eastern Conference in they stay healthy. This FIC differential ranking system clearly suggests strongly that it is a severe misdiagnosis. I have had a few sips of the punch at MSG in the past, and while I'm believing in 2010, I am not believing in the playoffs in 08-09.

27. Minnesota Timberwolves : -15.1

The Wolves are now 0-7 since Kevin McHale took over for Randy Wittman as head coach.

28. Washington Wizards : -15.2

Andray Blatche is playing seven more minutes per in December and has upped his field goal percentage to 48.9%.

29. Sacramento Kings : -16.7

The Kings could possibly have the worst overall talent at point guard in the entire NBA.

30. Oklahoma City Thunder: -17.9

The Thunder got their first win in 11 games last week by defeating the Raptors.
