Statistical Analysis Board: In a move that was a long time coming, we finally added a board devoted strictly to statistical analysis. One of the first threads on there is whether slow pace helps teams play better defense and therefore win. Over the past few seasons, slow-paced teams have reached the playoffs 71% of the time, compared to 45% for medium and fast-paced teams, which was much wider than I expected.

Report: Celtics, Rondo Agree In Principle: If I were Rajon Rondo, I probably would have taken the $55 million extension, but I think he cost himself at least $15 million by taking the security Boston offered. With all of the teams having cap space and how unequivocally dominant he has become in his all-around game, there would have been multiple teams willing to offer him a near-max, if not a max deal this summer.

A-Rod Delivers In 9th, Yankees Take 3-1 Series Lead: The Yankees are now one win away from winning their first World Series since 2000. Much more so than the NBA, the momentum of a seven-game series in the MLB can shift in an instant. The Phillies had control of Game 3 until Alex Rodriguez hit an opposite field homer off the camera. If the Phillies won Game 3, then the Yankees absolutely would have had to have Game 4 with CC Sabathia because then Philadelphia would have had Cliff Lee going again in a potential clincher. Cole Hamels fell apart and the late inning game-tying homer on Sunday night by Pedro Feliz was a short lived reason for optimism after Brad Lidge gave up three runs on two outs. Now, the Phillies must win three in a row with two of the games in Yankee Stadium and Game 7 against Sabathia, who has only given up damage against Chase Utley.

Risdon's $.10 For Week 8: I agree 100% with Jeff Risdon that Cleveland's insistence on continuing to start Derek Anderson instead of Brady Quinn appears financially motivated. This will be an issue during the offseason, possibly in the form of a grievance and definitely in the form of a trade. Risdon expects Quinn to end up with the Vikings, which would be an ideal fit for him.

Source: Vikings FB Injured In Locker Room Horseplay: Naufahu Tahi didn't play on Sunday because he was injured while wrestling around with Adrian Peterson. Lucky for Brad Childress, Peterson and most importantly Tahi that it was Tahi that was injured and not Peterson.

Outside RealGM

With new pact, Rondo gains elite status: Rondo's new deal puts him about on par with Monta Ellis and I'm not sure there is anyone out there who would rather have the Warriors guard.

Jennings Makes Vaccaro Look Smart...Or Does He?: Differing opinions on what playing in Europe has meant to Brandon Jennings after just two NBA games. I'm not qualified enough to determine how on floor development is different in top level Europe than in the D-League, but the personal growth in terms of seeing Europe's finest cities has to do more than spending nights in Boise and Bakersfield.

When Johnny comes running home again: The way Johnny Damon stole second and then third in the 9th inning on Sunday was the most impressive piece of clutch baserunning I have ever seen. Like River Avenue Blues, I had no idea why Damon was going ahead to third since we didn't see the shift on the television feed and also didn't see Brad Lidge ducked down on the mound.

Damon had been considering doing the first to third move all season on base ahead of Mark Teixeira and he couldn't have picked a better possible time for the gadget play.

Why Ryan Grant Isn't The Answer: Opposing defenses can tuck their ear backs and head straight to Aaron Rodgers against a porous offensive line, at least partially because Ryan Grant isn't in the class of the NFL's best running backs. The point made here by Acme Packing Company is that the Packers would have a much more efficient running game if they had a secondary back. The Packers used a second round pick in 2007 on Brandon Jackson and he's been a relative disappoint and they'll probably have to use another second rounder on a back this season unless they can find one in free agency.
