I’m really excited to be writing a blog on RealGM.com. I’d like to thank Chris Reina and the rest of the staff for providing me with this opportunity.

For my first blog, I thought I’d give you an overview of what my summer was like--

Draft
This summer has been wild. The night of the draft, I was just excited to be a part of the NBA. It was a great feeling to hear my name called and to walk across the stage and shake David Stern’s hand. No matter how many times I imagined what it would be like, the real experience was completely different.

After my name was called, I spent about two hours backstage taking pictures and giving interviews. After we left Madison Square Garden, we headed to Jay-Z’s Club, 40-40.

My old high school teammate, Bracey Wright, and I had a joint draft night party there. All of our family members were there with us. It was a long night.

Utah
Other than the 5:00am wake-up call, my first trip to Salt Lake City was great. It’s unbelievable how much the people of Salt Lake City love the Jazz. There were tons of people and media waiting for us at the airport when we arrived. It was cool. I spent the rest of the day at press conferences, in interviews, filming commercials and meeting people.

Summer League
Summer league was my first chance to play organized basketball since the NCAA national championship game. I had a couple of good games and a couple of bad ones. We finished about .500. All in all, it was a good experience.

I also got a chance to get a few practices in with Coach Jerry Sloan and the rest of the coaching staff. He’s a great coach and I look forward to playing for him.

House Shopping
Without a doubt, house shopping was the worst part of the summer. It was a lot harder than I expected to find my perfect house. I need plenty of room for my pool table, enough bedrooms for when my family comes to visit, and a big enough yard for my daughter to play in.

After looking at what felt like a hundred homes, I finally found one that worked. Maybe you’ll see me on MTV Cribs.

Until the next time, peace,
Deron
