Deseret News - 07/03 - 8:09 AM EST Matt Harpring isn't sure whether he'll be able to return to the court next season.
"Sometimes," Harpring said Thursday. "I have thoughts of playing. And then I have thoughts of not playing."
After the team's playoff loss to the Lakers, Harpring said that he'd return next season, but doubt has crept into his mind.
"I told them after the season, 'It could be over,' " said Harpring. "They said, 'Well, let's see how the summer goes.' "
Harpring, 33, has had a number of surgeries over his 11-year career.
"I need to get motion back into [the] ankle, and if it doesn't happen then not playing is a definite possibility," he said. "I can't function the way. It's not working. I thought this summer would be good for rehab and getting that motion back ... but there's a lot of junk in there.
"The reason why I wouldn't be playing is medical. I'd love to play. And I told them that at the end of the year. But I said I have to get this ankle back to be able to play," Harpring added. "I mean, I went through last year with a lot of pain — and it just doesn't seem right, the function or the mobility. I'm sure you could see it on the court." [READ] |

Los Angeles Times - 07/03 - 1:23 AM EST Ron Artest met with Lakers executives throughout the day on Thursday and agreed to terms of about $18 million over three years.
Other reports have indicated that Artest would receive a five-year deal from the Lakers worth $33 million.
Trevor Ariza agreed to a five-year deal with the Rockets for about $33 million, roughly the same that the Lakers had offered in their effort to retain him.
"I had to do what was best for me and family," Ariza said. "I am happy with my decision. I'm glad this all worked out. The Rockets are going to give me a chance to improve my game and that's all you can ask for."
Ariza had a more lucrative offer from another team, according to his agent.
"I am very excited to finally be going to L.A.," Artest said in a statement. "For years now, the Lakers have expressed interest in having me play for them, but we could never get the stars to align.I'm finally a Laker and I can't wait to get on the court with Kobe, Pau [Gasol] and the rest of the team, and play for Phil [Jackson].
"The Lakers really made me feel wanted. . . . I look forward to helping the Lakers defend their championship, and it will be great to finally not get booed in the Staples Center.
"I had a great talk today with Phil. I'm a huge fan of his and I can't wait to show him what I can do. I also spoke with Magic Johnson last night. In addition, my agent has been in constant contact with Mitch Kupchak. I made my decision after I had lunch today with Dr. Buss and I realized what a great organization I'm joining." [READ] |

Associated Press (Google) - 07/02 - 11:15 PM EST Donnie Walsh e-mailed the Associated Press and seemed to imply that the Knicks will have more salary cap flexibility in the summer of 2010 than currently projected.
"I have a little leeway which will leave me in good position for next year," Walsh wrote. "I know what it is but do not talk much about it."
It is not clear whether Walsh is referring to an unannounced player move that would reduce the Knicks' salary cap burden. Eddy Curry and Jared Jeffries have the two largest contracts that remain on the team's books for the 2010-2011 season.
The Knicks will reportedly offer a three-year contract to Jason Kidd. [READ] |

Alex Kennedy/RealGM - 07/02 - 7:58 PM EST Now that the Dallas Mavericks have reached a verbal agreement with former Orlando Magic center Marcin Gortat, it’s clear that free agent Brandon Bass will have to find another suitor.
“If anything this will help move things along and could pave the way for a sign-and-trade,” said Tony Dutt, Bass’ agent upon learning of the Gortat deal.
Orlando can still match the Mavericks’ offer since Gortat is a restricted free agent but it’s uncommon to pay a reserve player the full mid-level exception.
When asked about the possibility of Bass playing in Orlando alongside his top client Rashard Lewis, essentially swapping places with Gortat, Dutt replied, “Orlando is a great organization. I’ll leave my comment at that.”
Last season, Bass averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game off the bench for Dallas. [READ] |

SI.com - 07/02 - 7:38 PM EST Gar Forman previously called Ben Gordon the top priority of the Chicago Bulls offseason, but that didn't mesh with reality at least according to the club's best scorer since he was drafted in 2004.
"I mean they didn't pursue me at all. They didn't even make an offer so it was pretty much a one-man race," Gordon told ESPN Radio 1000 in Chicago.
Forman declined comment on Thursday. He said when he was promoted to GM in May that the Bulls wanted to keep Gordon, but that would have probably meant paying the luxury tax and sacrificing cap space they could have next summer. [READ] |
