For years Michael Jordan and Jerry Krause had a common goal; win championships for the Chicago Bulls. Now they are disputing who will be quicker develop their respective teams into a championship contender.

''Michael and I have had our go-arounds through the years,'' Krause said. ''At one time, it was all for the positive, but now he's trying to beat me.”

Jerry Krause tried to keep Michael Jordan from going into retirement, but he could not convince him to stay. ''He made his decision [to retire],'' Krause said. ''We tried to talk him out of it. There was nothing I can do.''

Krause states that he admires the way Jordan is helping to turn around a team that won only 19 games last season, but he does not believe that the Wizards are further along the rebuilding than the Bulls.

''I don't know if that will be told for a long time,'' Krause said. ''Obviously, we're both banking on young players, and you can't tell on young players for two or three years.''
